Are we back to thinking we can get a Bradley/Walker package?

Tommy Loyd has to prove himself as a coach first before he can think of getting top classes. International connections or not.

At this point I just want to fast forward to the end and see who we end up with, it's a new adventure in this thread almost every day.

Sounds like Bradley and Walker is back to a go. Miller probably a no go. Of course, something will probably change in a few days.
We just need to get somebody to commit. I think once they do, the gate opens.

Did KU miss on someone else to come after Miller this late?
No clue. But I don't know who they would miss on, where Miller is a backup plan.

Four-star senior Chandler Jackson talks his recruitment, recent visit
Christian Brothers’ Chandler Jackson is currently entering his senior year of high school and is blossoming as a prospect both on and off the floor.
Yes, the 6-foot-4 combo guard out of Memphis, Tennessee, has developed at an extremely solid rate and had an outstanding summer with Team Thad. Now, off the floor, he’s watching his recruitment take off. Jackson has added several new scholarships over the last few weeks, including a recent one from Tennessee and Rick Barnes.
Jackson was the leader and a crucial focal point for his high school squad this season as well, leading them to an impressive 21-1 record and an appearance in his district’s semi-finals. Jackson had told Stockrisers.com that prior to the season his squad was ready and he didn’t expect a lot of losses, and he only saw one regular-season loss this year.
Individually, he finished the year averaging 17.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. On a balanced team with several talented prospects, Jackson led the way and bolstered himself, in my opinion, into the Top-100 prospects in the 2022 class and arguably one of the more consistent prospects in the state of Tennessee.
Jackson now leads his squad into his final year with winning intentions. First, he might take some college visits prior to the start of his senior campaign. So, let’s hear from the talented Memphis product, who discussed his recruitment with Stockrisers.com.
Which schools are heavily involved?
“Tennessee a new school, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Texas, Florida State, Memphis, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, those schools.”
Any newer schools?
“The newest school is Tennessee, they just offered me on Sunday.”
Discuss Tennessee’s pitch, the offer, and will you visit?
“Tennessee is just saying when they call that they wanna keep me in the state, I’m a good player, and that I fit the system of what Coach Barnes is doing. I fit nice and I can just come in and play. They said when they offered that they want me to come to visit in October, so, I think I might be visiting then.”
Thoughts on Virginia Tech? How did your visit go this past weekend?
“I really liked it, was a great place. My family loved it. The weather was nice, the scenery, the coaching staff was very good as well. The players, and everything from the trainers to the academic advisors. I just liked it, the whole thing it was just very fun and my family loved it.”
What are your thoughts on Texas and their recruitment of you?
“Texas is a good school, has a lot of history. Coach Beard being the head coach, he’s a really good coach and one of the best in the country actually. What he did at Texas Tech, using his freshmen to help them win, and if I were to come in I can make an immediate impact to win like that. Just the history, it’s an amazing place and I hope to get down there for a visit. It’s an amazing place.”
Commitment timeline?
“My commitment timeline, as of right now, I don’t know. I’m thinking November or December for sure.”
Any other visits?
“I have an unofficial visit this weekend with Kansas. I might be going to Tennessee the weekend, Texas and Florida State want me to come to, I just don’t have the dates yet.”

Sounds like we aren't really in it for Chandler Jackson at this point.

I quit following football recruiting, because of all the bullshite drama. Then here comes Oats, getting us involved in more great recruits, that are better than we've ever landed (like Saban did years ago). And now, my stupid, masochistic arse is now following basketball recruiting. Proving my theory that I'm an intelligent idiot.

I doubt we make the cut.

The thing about focusing on all the top of guys is you really haven’t built a relationship or put the work in with the second tier guys. Then when you realize you are going to miss on your top targets, it’s hard to just come in at the last minute on your fallback options when other teams have been courting them the whole time.

I hope Nate has more sense than that.

Isn't this kind of projecting? Nate has done a really good job of roster management and recruiting different kinds of players, ranging from 1-and-dones to 3+ year players. Even if Bama whiffs on a couple of their top targets, I'm pretty sure Oats has enough sense to not leave the recruiting board empty.

I'm not worried about recruiting one bit with Coach Oats here! He has two go getters in Coach Bryan & Coach Pettway! Nate will get the players he needs whether they're top tier or not! He's already proven that him and his staff can DEVELOP players! He will hit the Juco scene, transfer portal, & oversees if he has to because he always has a plan!

It's also just not that important to have established backup plans among high school recruits anymore. If the staff identifies ~15 kids who they believe would be good fits for the program and show legitimate interest in coming here, why then would they spend time recruiting kids who don't have the talent to play quality basketball at this level just to ensure there's a warm body in that roster spot? Because if they just wait until the portal starts to fill up they'll be able to fill that roster spot with a kid who actually can play quality D1 basketball.
I don't want us to build a roster via the portal, but as long as we sign at least 2-3 good high school prospects in every class we're going to be fine from a talent/roster construction perspective.

My thoughts on the newcomers:
Holt- He is my sleeper pick to be the best shooter on the team! He needs to keep hitting the weights though!
JD- He will lead the team in assists! Super skilled & athletic. He is a PROBLEM in transition as well.
Bediako- He is a shot blocker but if he develop like I think he is going to shoot he will be monster in a year or so!
Gurley- He has that basketball know how. He's going to be one of the leaders of the team.
Tchikou- He is the most TALENTED, but he has to put it all together. He's still a little raw but shoot he has POTENTIAL to be ELITE.
