You can't tell if he is ready for a big role next year based on him playing 15 minutes a game in U19.

I can have an opinion based on what Ive watched.

I don't think anyone is freaking out over Bediako. I think most of us were saying that it's silly to come to any conclusion over 15 minutes a game in a random international tournament for a guy who specifically fits our system because of the system. And on top of that we said that we didn't expect him to show up and average a double double anyway, so there's no reason to freak out about his lower numbers.

His role next year was always going to be limited to things he could seamlessly walk in the door day 1 and do well - rim protector, pick and roll dunker and MAYBE some pick and pop outside shots. Everything else was going to develop over time.

Did anyone say we did?

If Bediako plays 18 minutes a night, protects the paint, rebounds and forces defenses to think about him rolling to the rim and dunking and opens up space for JQ/JD in the high screen game........that's a successful year 1.

I honestly don’t know. I was too lazy to look back and read. I just saw drama and wanted in.

Hell yea. I think some of our fans don’t realize how good Gurley will be. He had over 20 points in his last 4 games and had 29 and 35 in his last two.

Oh please. You compared him to fricking Carl Engstrom, who had no business even playing D1 college basketball.

This is what i said after his 2 points 1 rebound performance

hope I'm wrong, but he looked like a project yesterday. It was a Carl Engstrom and Mousse Gueye type of game for him yesterday. Hopefully it was a fluke. ...

Cry about it i guess.

The first 5 or so guys are very, very good and known quantities outside of Davison, who even if he can't shoot a lick (not saying he can't, just mentioning worst case scenario) is going to wreak havoc in the drive game.

- Quinerly
- Davis
- Ellis
- Gurley
- Gary

Then, you look past that and you really need 2-3 of the transfers/young kids to be healthy and able to play at a high level

- Burnett (already established as an elite defender)
- Miles
- KAH
- Bediako
- Frenchy
- Holt

Then you have 1 more addition who will be in that same boat or be Shack back in the mix. Either way, it's a deep roster with some proven entities and some unproven but talented guys.

Need another 3 point shooter IMO . Hopefully there’s one out there.

Oh yeah, my bad. I just went back and looked. Your in game comparison was only to Gueye, who coincidentally also had no business on a D1 roster. Carl was only brought in after the fact. Then there was an upgrade to Jimmie Taylor after a more productive game, so at least we have that. Jimmie had zero offensive skills whatsoever but he played good D and had some sick put back dunks.

You're entitled to your opinion. I'm entitled to think your opinion is fricking stupid.

This is going to be key. If Shack comes back, we get an experienced, productive transfer, or some elite 2022 kid reclassifies (although that's getting less likely by the day now with the enrollment deadline approaching) it'd go a long way towards lengthening our bench.

It seems like its either re add shack or not add anyone at this point. Shack electing to enter the portal so late didnt do us any favors, just the day before he entered it Oats sounded in an interview like he thought Shack was returning.

None of the transfers in the portal that seem like they would be a decent fit have listed us in the schools that have contacted them.

The beauty of sports is we get to find out who is right and who is wrong, or in this case "fricking stupid"

I think that when anyone refers to Carl Engstrom, they need to call him Carl fricking Engstrom. Maybe we can add a filter, like for when people try to type "count."

I think Oats really wants shack back. Hopefully shacks decision wasn’t based on the rumors about his father.

Would be kind of embarrassing to end up coming back to the team after your daddy convinced you to transfer due to a lack of “shots”. Shack would be an awesome 6th man for us in this system and could still score about 15 a game.

I think Obanor would be a good fit. Though we're a little heavy on wings/PFs. But Ellis could play SG if we wanted to play big.

Ellis is due for a huge season especially if Shack doesn’t return. He’s very efficient on both sides of the ball.

My only concern with letting him come back is that there will be some locker room problems or some bullshite with his dad if he doesn't get to play any PG.

I wanted to mention that too but left it out. If the staff has him back then I would imagine they think his return wouldn't be a problem but you have to wonder if anything in the locker room may be weird for a while or if he gets a bit more demanding with his role. He may be like the fourth-best ball handler on the team and he's going to want more time at the 1 (assuming his feedback is become a PG). I don't like that recipe.

The plan must be to play Gurley at the 4 a lot since we don't seem to be recruiting any transfer guards. He is the same size as Herb so I think he could play on the wing, both are 6'8 210.

Why would we not use the scholarship on a one year player? I don’t understand the reasoning for that.
