Correct me if wrong, but doesn’t Tchikou have a 3 point shot and Bediako not? If that’s the case then I have a hard time seeing Oats give them start to Bediako.

As for JD, I think he starts game 1. He’s the most talented guy on the roster. I could see Oats easing him into the starting spot since you’ve got experienced guards, but my money is on him getting the nod considering how good JQ was coming off the bench.

Bediako has a 3pt shot, but I'd describe it as similar to a show pitch in baseball. Good enough to keep defenders honest, but not a weapon. Tchikou looks like he could be a high percentage shooter on a relatively high volume.

Bediako has the ability to shoot from range supposedly, but not at the same level as Tchikou. Still some concern with Tchikou's achilles as well.

Oats definitely prefers guys who can hit 3s. But that won't be his only criteria for the 5 spot. It probably would be for the 4, or any other position. But if a 5 can run and can guard well, there's plenty of ways to get him in without clogging up the lanes.

Yep. A guy like Donta Hall would have been great in the Oats system without being a threat from outside because of his athletic rum runner ability. My hope is that Bediako can play a role similar to what Donta would have, while also being at least an average threat from outside so that defenses are forced to keep their big man spaced enough for our guards to really flourish.

Oh I'm sure he will find plenty of ways to use Bediako, I'm just not sure how much more he brings to the table than a healthy Tchikou. Now if Tchikou isn't very good on defense/rebounding then that changes things tremendously.

If he'd have been around in the 30s, he'd have been rich like a Kennedy.

With an Achilles injury, I'm most concerned about their lateral quickness. Playing defense at 100% can be the toughest part of the recovery.

The first month of the season for the big guys is just as interesting as figuring out the starting backcourt. Tchikou is the perfect 5 for this system but is coming off a nasty achilles injury, that will require a lot of patience. You have Bediako and even though he's not known to hit shots from outside, he's healthy and can help a lot outside of just his shooting. Then you have Gurley, who I could see starting at the 5 for the first game and sliding a spot over if one of the other two steps up sometime during the season. I would hate to be Oats right now but obviously, he has a lot more information than us.

He's probably ecstatic looking at this roster. Think about the roster he inherited in year one and how well he shaped it for year two. The third roster puts those two rosters combined to shame.

Oats is a straight shooter. He is very passionate and real about everything he does so if he's saying this and that about certain players well its TRUE!

His roster is crazy good though! It looked to me like DMiles was noticeably bigger on the workout video. It might just be me but if he puts it all together smh look out because his upside is crazy!

That's pretty much exactly what I expect/hope will happen. I'm not sure Frenchy or Bediako will be ready to start on game 1. But I'd be shocked if neither stepped up and took over as a starter (or sad if it's due to injuries).

During this past recruiting season, he's definitely seeked medical attention after it didn't go down after 4 hours. At this point, I'm amazed his wife isn't riding around Tuscaloosa in a rascal scooter.
