One @overtime source said there will be a 4:1 teacher/student ratio & the league is building a “a world-class high school” that will emphasize financial literacy & social media training. The G League has done similar training
This will certainly be the subject of future stories

The Overtime Elite thing just feels extremely predatory to me.

I mean, if they are getting $100K guaranteed per year, I have a hard time calling it predatory. I am very curious, though, as to how the thing is going to work. Who are they going to play? Is the competition going to be comparable to even NCAA basketball?
I think if the NCAA opens up the name, image, and likeness stuff this summer, big-name players will benefit more on that end by going to a marquee program where they will be seen and promoted on ESPN, etc. I don't see them maintaining any sort of profile that brands will be interested in at this OTE thing.

Dangling money in front of minor children to encourage them to drop out of high-school to play basketball all day while learning what "fiduciary" means and not to leave their Twitter account logged in on their phone is pretty fricking predatory to me. $100,000 isn't exactly life changing money unless you're just flat out destitute. All that 4:1 student to teach ratio and state of the art high school stuff is bullshite. They're going to stick them in front of a computer a couple of hours a day and call it school just like any other diploma mill. I mean there's also not even any guarantees that the money is going to go directly to the kids and be in their exclusive control.

Dunning is an interesting one. I'm not sure how well he fits our system when compared to some of our other targets tbh.
I used to think the same but after watching him more I think he would be a good fit. He isn't a great shooter but he reminds me some of Herb, he isn't quite as tall as Herb but I think he is a lot more polished offensively out of HS than Herb was. He is really good at at getting to the rim and finishing.
One way in which he doesn't fit that well is he like to take a lot of mid range shots (long twos), but so did Quinerly when he got here.

I am interested to see where Tre Mitchell ends up. Part of the deal is you have to hire his soon to be step dad as a coach to get Mitchell.

This will be the most competitive SEC basketball season of all time. 3-4 teams could win it all imo.

I hate to tell you this, but a lot of these kids sit in front of a computer for school already. You think these elite prep schools that play national schedules have these kids going to legitimate classes? If they want to get paid to do it, more power to them.

As a longtime advocate for online education, this is the way of the future. Much more efficient, cost-effective, transparent, etc. Will it provide 100% everything? No, but nothing does.

No, that's why I referred to them as " diploma mills." Prep "school" basketball is an incredibly fricked up system that takes maximum advantage of the kids in exchange for giving them more exposure and better training than they'd get in a traditional high school setting. It's something the NCAA has needed to crack down on for years but won't. Establishing a professional version of that same system is incredibly irresponsible. What's going to happen to the kids that don't work out? If they end up not being good enough for pro ball at 19 they aren't eligible for college anymore, and that $100k is long gone by then.

Byrne has said the same thing over and over for like 4 years now. It’s been 4 years and they still haven’t figured out a plan to even raise the money?? It may be a priority NOW with Oats here, but there’s no way he can sit there and say it was a priority before this. And I get that Covid messed things up, but you can at least try to have a plan in place...and it sucks bc they’ll probably figure out a model to use in like another year, then you’ve gotta take time to raise the money, then you have to set aside time to build the arena or renovate. So we’re still years away from ever seeing anything and by then Oats may not even be here.
