Yes we needed another big and hopefully this young man can carve out a role this season.

Jarin Stevenson wasn't physically ready. Jarin Stevenson was relied on to score some as well. This young man right here is physically ready and Bama isn't depending on him to score game in and game out...all he has to do is give us about eight minutes some games... Put Backs, Rebound, Shot blocking, and Rim Running!

Will he be able to do that? That will be determined...

But it's a little bit of a different situation!

Im a fan of this pickup. He is a solid insurance policy in case Williamson doesn't develop. Almost zero offensive game but I think he can give us a solid 5-7 minutes defensively right now.

Is that Coach Murphys son? We could have a fun locker room vibe
Edit: saw two pages back it is his son. Happy for both of them

I don't mean to be a dick, but did you think that there was a possibility that Preston Murphy Jr. was not the son of Coach Preston Murphy? That it might be a coincidence?

We had a roster spot so this is like a free rental. Get him in, see what his potential is. Best case scenario he can give us some minutes at the 5 and learns the system and we’re able to develop him better than playing highschool ball against a bunch of 5’11” Catholic kids in Massachusetts.

Worst case scenario we got a free look at a guy who was going to be a top 100 guy next year.

6'10'' 270lb doesn't grow on trees. I'd been happy nabbing some backup quality transfer with those measurables at this juncture, so getting a HS prospect who could develop on the job is almost preferable to where my expectations were tuned.

Same. This is a great pickup and exactly what we needed. Big bodied defender with an additional 5 fouls to give if needed.

Love this staff and hope we enjoy every moment we have Oats. I’m still going to temper my expectations early given the amount of turnover in the roster and our starting center, PG, & highest rated scoring guard are all sophomores if I’m not mistaken. However, this team should be fun to watch even if there are underclassmen mistakes to work out!

And this kid can move. He's not just some slow, lumbering center at that size. He can jump, has a quick first step, and seems to hold down the post. From the video, he's still a bit of a bull in a china shop. But he's young and physically ready to play. He's a great project player, that at worst, can be 5 fouls.

But I'm pretty excited about this pickup. Gives us depth at a needed spot with minimum risk. We also had some decent competition trying to sign this guy. I'd love to see him bring some serious physicality in the paint.

Ever hear of rhetorical question my friend? Obviously my first guess was his son then I saw it was confirmed cause that would be a crazy coincidence wouldn't it. You sure you weren't trying to be dick? Cause by saying not trying to sound like a dick made it seem that way. Glad we cleared that up and you now see I'm intellectual like you CC. ROLL TIDE

Did you not see his post up hook shots and other post moves in the film? Plus he can jump, get rebounds and put backs. He has more post moves than anybody except Grant on last year’s team. Maybe this year’s too except Williamson.

Allen would start at the 3?

Aden and Philon as 1/2 kinda interchangeable. Sherrell at the 5. Feel pretty good about those 3 as starters.

Then Bol Bowen at the 4, penciled in.

So Allen is the 3? I think Mallette sounds like he is in line for a lot of minutes at the 3 spot.

Trelly will have his say at the 2. Bringing Aden off the bench would make it easier to stagger him and Philon.

For me the rotation should be

Starting: Philon/Trelly/Bethea/TBB/Sherrell

6th man: Aden

Rest of rotation: Mallette, 2/3 of (Allen, Jemison, Bristow), and then Williamson or Onyejiaka at the 5.

That would be a strong 10 man rotation.

Idk about that. Reports from practice were that he was ahead of schedule and moving around pretty well.

Trelly been moving pretty good for quite some time now.

He'll be ready the first game for sure at this point... maybe even the exhibition game.

I’d imagine this is your starting 5:
Philon
Bethea
Mallette
Bol Bowen
Sherrell

This is the one I've been expecting. And who closes probably depends on who's had the hot hand. But I think we're gonna see a lot minutes from Mallette this year. Trelly will probably play about 20 mpg.

Aden coming off the bench leaves me hoping he has a JQ type year where he knows his role and wins 6th man of the year
