Philon must have gotten a guarantee from someone or he just really hates college. Because some of these guys withdrawing were definitely mocked higher than Philon.

After he got off to such a stellar start he was mocked much higher, in the low teens by some, maybe he set his heart on going to the NBA after one season. Then he was injured for a while and took a little time to recover, affecting his play and stats. Maybe he just couldn't get his heart back into a 2nd season in college with the decent possibility of still going late in the first round.

It takes a lot of maturity to recalibrate your heart. Also, from a practical standpoint, if you trust your talent, it is good to start your NBA clock as well as devote all of your time to basketball rather than going through the academic motions of college.

Our roster has a decent ceiling if everyone maximizes potential in a system they seem to fit, but the floor is pretty low. And the league is loaded again.

On face value most are going to see this as a roster that barely cracks the Top 10 league wide. And that isn't unreasonable.

Don't think we'll be terrible or anything, but you can certainly see a path to the bubble if things don't click and guys like Bowen and Bethea struggle to fit. The league is going to be unforgiving again with what other teams are bringing back and bringing in.

I don’t think the league will be anywhere near as good as it was last season.

I think you’re comparing them to last year’s SEC. IMO you’d have a very different opinion if you actually looked at each team’s roster for this upcoming season.

The last 10 days have drastically improved some rosters in the league with late transfers and draft withdrawals.

We have 3 McDs All Americans in our starting lineup. If Bethea had signed with us out of highschool, he’d have been our highest rated recruit of all time.

Most importantly, Nate Oats took transfers from Ohio and North Dakota State and went to the final 4 and elite 8.

Why are we dooming?

Not dooming, but Florida, Auburn and Kentucky all got much better the last couple days. I think this team can be very good and has a high ceiling if everything clicks, but probably also has the lowest floor since Oats’ first year.

Bethea and Bol Bowen will have to be real good for this team to make noise. And let’s be honest, they put up pedestrian numbers on bad teams in a bad league. They have to prove it.

lowest floor since Oats’ first year.

Yeah, I don't know about that. We're probably as talented 1-8 as just about any other year. Last year we had 11 good players but none of them were superstars, unless you count a borderline NBA guy in Sears. Barring lots of injuries, I'd say the floor is an average Oats' team. The ceiling is a deep run in March. I suspect some of the freshmen will be better than a lot of people think

All those teams you mentioned has to PROVE it as well.

Florida doesn't have Walter Clayton anymore! What guard will mimic his capabilities?

Auburn has a ton of potential but that's it.

Kentucky has an opportunity to be good but will their offense take a hit? Because I don't think they will be as good offensively. Defensively, I think they will be improved.

Arkansas will be much improved...I think lol

Alabama has a ton of potential. I think defensively Bama will be a lot better. A healthy Latrell Wrightsell Jr is scary! Bama will be fine as long as Coach Oats is operating the ship.

Agree. All three got better senior year and moved up in the player rankings. The staff seems very happy with them- and the transfers.

Those 3 teams just got major returns from the draft in Condon, Pettiford, and Oweh. No such luck with Philon. Those 2 teams have top 10 portal classes. Bama does not.

He is coming off 2 major injuries in back to back seasons. Putting hopes on him being a key piece is very optimistic.

Agreed. But it's perfectly fine to to have reservations about next season based on the current roster.
