Some stats

USC transfer guard Desmond Claude will take an official visit to Alabama beginning on Sunday.

Claude is one of the top guards in the transfer portal.

The Connecticut native averaged 15.8 PPG, 3.5 RPG, and 4.2 APG at USC as a junior. In addition, he shot 48.2% from the floor and 30.7% from three.

I think you get both.

I presume this is why the Keonte Jones holdup. We probably want Claude over Keonte

They don't play the same position and we need help at both PG and SF. Unless we only have enough money for one of them I don't see why we'd hold off on Jones because of Claude.

Need to surround Holloway with length and guys that can defend (at least a bit). Plus we need another creator. Seems like a good fit.

The roster construction seems to make some sense given that. Pretty good size across the board outside of Holloway.

I’d be cautious about expecting too much from Wrightsell. I think he can still contribute but just name the player..Kobe, Durant, Cousins, Klay Thompson..nobody is ever the same after an Achilles injury

I’m not expecting much of anything. Really good player but he’s had back to back serious injuries, and the second was the worst you can get.

They’ll probably manage his minutes. If he’s a valuable bench contributor by the end of the year, it’s a huge win. If he’s healthy enough to be a starter, it’s massive.

Agreed. He hasn’t shown the ability to stay healthy while at UA so if he can give us serious minutes, that’ll be a huge boost. He’s such an asset when he’s on the court. Seems like a genuinely good dude too.

I am expecting something out of him. If he was a player that was super-dependent on speed and quickness, I would be concerned. However, his calling card is his ability to shoot. I suppose it COULD potentially limit him a bit in that regard if the strength isn't back in his leg completely. Maybe it'll be a bit more of an issue on D. Overall, though, I would expect him to still be able to shoot it fairly well.

Speaking of needing a second creator, I thought he showed flashes of that two years ago. Even though we didn’t really need him to be.

Plus he’s literally one of the best shooters in the country, and before all these injuries a good defender. But he’s just a complete wildcard.

Yeah he should still shoot it well. I guess the questions for me are a) can he just stay healthy, and b) is he limited athletically because of the injuries? He was a good defender before all this.

Yeah. I believe that's fair.

Honestly, he was limited before the injury. He's a great shooter, but was never really athleticly gifted. I think some are kind of over-hyping what he was/is. He's a good role player, but, much like Youngblood, he has his limitations.

Not trying to be a downer. I like the team, but some of the hype for mid-major transfers has been over the top the past couple years.

Before the injury he could take advantage of teams aggressively closing out on his catch and shoot. A bit better than Youngblood to be quite honest. However, let's not act like he was taking folks off the dribble on the regular.

I agree that expecting much after an achilles injury is foolish. He's young, so he may heal well. NBA veterans tend to never be the same. Durant basically had no lateral explosive movement after his injury. Tatum is a coin flip whether he's cooked as a top-end NBA player after what he experienced a few nights ago.

Claude would be big.

He can get downhill and at 6'6 should be able to make up for some deficiancies on D with his length.

Also, his 3 pt stroke looked OK to me. I bet that 30% moves up.

The barns point guard lit it up at the combine scrimmage. 23 points, 8 assists. Hope someone takes him early.

Claude is a damn near perfect fit . Length on defense is going to be better than ever. Much easier to build a good defense around just one small guard. Also allows us to use Holloway in a similar role that he thrived in last year. Claude has to work on eliminating the turnovers, but shouldn't be relied on as much as he was at USC.

1 - Claude
2 - Wrightsell
3 - Bethea
4 - Bol Bowen
5 - Sherrell

6 - Holloway (starter minutes)
7 - Keonte Jones (potentially)
8 - Jemison
9 - Williamson
10 - Mallette

11 - Hannah
12 - Bristow
13 - Allen

That's a top ten roster IMO.

This is definitely true. He’s a sensational spot up shooter, but his handle is not that great and Bama would be in serious trouble if he was tasked with being a main ball handler in late game situations.

Sears, Nelson, Estrada, Wrightsell, Youngblood, and Bruner have all been key pieces, if not the key pieces on teams that won the SEC or made it to the Elite 8 and Final 4.

You could make the argument that it’s been the high major transfers that have disappointed more. Guys like Burnett and Cliff underperformed.

If we get Claude and Jones, probably moving into redshirt territory for a couple of the freshmen.
