Williamson seems like a great addition. He’s really grown over the past few seasons. His stats the second half of the season are impressive. Went 4-7 from 3 in one game and 6-6 in another. Scored 15 or more in all but two games after Christmas break.

Sleepers Media did a full video on this kid. Fantastic depth piece. They said he doesn't play a lick of defense though.

Got one already. I didn't have it by his name for a reason.
I expect Corey Chest and Bol Bowen if we are really serious about getting back in the top 10 defensively.

He's 7 footer tall and averaged 7.6 rebounds and 1 block in 29.5 minutes per game for Patriot. He'll probably be coming off the bench

yeap, hence why I called him a depth piece. He will be what Sherrell would have been if healthy all year. Guy who can come in and provide instant offense against the second team defenders.
That being said, with his shooting ability we could play him and Sherrell and be 5 out on offense, allowing the guards more runway.

Williamson didn’t start his first year. He’s a project and Bama had Bucknell do most of that developing. He’s not a finished project.

So since we’re saying that this seven footer just picked up is a depth piece, who are we targeting to be our rim protector at center? Our backup center from last year is not a rim protector, or rebounder, but seems to be a developing offensive player.

I imagine the staff’s hope would be he has a healthy offseason and improves his game in all aspects and takes the 2nd year leap.

Sherrell was a fine defender at times. He really didn't seem to understand drop coverage though. There were games he felt better than others and you could see flashes though. He will be fine as the starter. Especially since he can be healthy this off-season.

He appeared slow and did not have good hops. Not an overall fan of his game but he did make some 3's which was nice to see

He was injured all of last off-season. So he was never in the shape he should have been. Bet we see a leaner, better version this year.

The rim protection is the one concern I have with this addition. We are losing a ton of it with Nelson and Cliff leaving. In order to offset that, we'll need much better perimeter defense or 4's that provide that help defense.
This however does gives us two shooters at the 5 spot. Would allow us to have a non-shooter like Chest roaming at the 4 and doing all the dirty work like Mo does now. Not saying that's the plan, just trying to make sense of some of the other targets.

Yours are where my thoughts are on things. We need that defensive difference maker inside at the 5. Sherell appears to be developing offensively, as a shooter, but I do not see part of his game including shot blocking, rebounding, or being a force inside. He’s played very soft there. We need someone inside that can do all three of the above. We have not had that since Bediako.

Anticipation and IQ are more important than athleticism. Broome isn’t any bigger or more explosive than Sherrell and he was one of the best rim protectors in the country.

He has a nice looking shot. Can handle the ball and pass. He also has good feet so he can learn to defend. I like it

I think Williamson is a depth piece. He’ll spell Sherrell, play 12-15 minutes a night, he’ll help spread the floor, hit some shots. I don’t think he’s meant to be a rim protector or play 30 minutes a night and bang with SEC bigs. It looks like their thinking might be if our two 5’s, Sherrell and Williamson can stretch the floor, we can play Mo and Chest and their help defense will offset an elite rim protector. Oats has certainly earned the benefit of the doubt when constructing a roster. Just have to see how it all plays out.
