They (UTk) fall to 4-4 in conference. Ouch.

No. 4 Alabama opens as a 1-point underdog at No. 14 Mississippi State tomorrow.

Not sure where else to put this comment, but watching my Warriors play Utah tonight, and Collin Sexton is still an absolute beast. 30 point night for him, and he just could not be stopped, especially when he was open for 3. Wish he was on a decent team so he could have some national exposure every now and then.
Also, I'll never forget this play every time I hear his name. Had the radio call on in my car while I was driving for work, and nearly ran off the road heading into Santa Barbara.

Considering how weak their off conference schedule was, I knew they had the potential to be frauds. They were riding the success of their last couple of teams and Barnes.
Iron sharpens iron.

quote:Yeah, and that soft non-conference had people convinced that Chaz Lanier was the second coming of Dalton Knecht, but he's really just Jaden Shackelford.

Kinda related but I notice a lot of this every year from podcasters

Yeah, Tennessee was ranked #1 based on recent history and just not having a loss.
However, they're solidly a 2 seed.
Those 4 SEC losses are @AU @Fla @Vandy and to Kentucky that shot 50% from behind the arc with wins @Illinois @Louisville (N) Baylor and vs Miss St.
Their defense is elite even though they haven't found the "bail you out of a bad possession" offensive threat this year and they always have a lot of awkward offensive possessions.

A lot of people perceive well executed defense as giving you more control over a game than well executed offense. I can understand why even though I don't think it really applies in basketball. You can control a game with a dominant team on either end. You just can't be bad on the other end, and Rick Barnes teams are bad on offense unless he's got a guy who can go get a bucket by himself whenever it's needed.

The Pitt student section is chanting “We Want Bama” while playing UNC in basketball. We have made it.
frick it, let's give it to them and schedule a home and home. It's basketball, so it's easy to do.

I mean, that chant is next level stuff. A veiled insult to any traditional blue blood, but especially to one that has been absolutely dominated by said program in multiple ways in recent years.

College Gameday is basically guaranteed to be in Tuscaloosa in two weeks, right? There's not another game on the calendar that can come close to touching that one.

There's not many games all season that come close to touching that one. Only one I can think of at the same level is Auburn/Duke.

We went from must wins to get in to be every opponents nightmare. Oats is the gawd dang truth!
Imagine facing a team and you don't know who to stop. Everything points to stopping the most veteran hometown hero guard, but he may not even score and you'd still lose by double digits. They can't make Thor free throws? Well you may get within 10. Their best shooter is in a slump? Out of nowhere three more long range assassin's appear and tonight's the night they get hot and hit clutch three's down the stretch. Kill them on the offensive boards? They'll just do the same to you at the other end? 50/50 balls and hustle plays? They give a damn reward for that.
I never in my days thought I'd see a Bama team like this

From the Tuscaloosa Thread:

Tragedy struck on Wednesday as former Alabama A&M and University of Alabama assistant basketball coach Sammy Jackson, 59, was found shot to death near Atlanta, according to a report by AL.com's Howard Koplowitz.
Jackson was a star basketball player at Headland High School near Dothan, Alabama. He was named All-Conference for the University of Montevallo in the 1980s.
After his playing days concluded, Jackson spent a decade as an assistant coach at Alabama A&M University, located in Huntsville, Alabama. He then took over as the head coach at Fort Valley State University in Georgia from 2011-2018.
Jackson also coached at Savannah State University as the head basketball coach from 1999-2000. He was an assistant coach at Alabama under former Alabama head coach Mark Gottfried.
Jackson's wife reported him missing on Monday, then his car was found abandoned in a parking spot by an apartment complex in Bonaire, Georgia, as reported by Macon Fox and ABC affiliate WGXA in Koplowitz's report.

Arkansas State head coach Bryan Hodgson has agreed to a new 6-year contract worth in excess of $4 million that makes him the highest-paid coach in the Sun Belt, source told @thefieldof68.
The contract basically assures Hodgson won’t leave for a lateral job. It also has a buyout in the $1 million range where a high-major can still hire him.
Hodgson took over a program that finished 13th out of 14 teams in the league and won 20 games and went to Sun Belt title game in his first season, and currently has the Red Wolves 17-5 overall and in sole possession of first place.
Arkansas State beat Memphis earlier this season and is currently in the Top 100 in both the NET and KenPom.
