Good question. Maybe they forgot to tell him that.

It's not the army. A missionary position isn't legally enforceable. That said, he probably won't be doing any missionary work until he leaves BYU.

So how do they work around the 2 year mission thing? Isn't that required for all students?

It's voluntary.

So only a year for him to soak it all in.

I feel like $7M for 1 kid better end with a National Title. Hell $7M on the whole team should be a Final Four AT LEAST.

They aren’t about to pull a class like Cal’s Kentucky squads and their coach is completely unproven. Just as likely that they flame out in the Round of 32

Just as likely that this kid rolls an ankle or pulls a hammy in mid-December, shuts himself down for the year, and they miss the tournament altogether.

What was the point then? It's not like he could have signed in November without BYU knowing about it. So he clearly wasn't using Bama to sweat BYU for more money. So why?

They actually bought a bunch of elite talent for this season, but are playing kinda shitty. That said, I'm not gonna judge a guy on his first year.

I don't know the rules, but wouldn't that information be somehow publicly disclosed if he did indeed sign during early signing period? I thought that was one of the triggers that was met in order to inform other teams to stop bothering a player and was basically what the early signing period accomplished was to allow said players to no longer deal with that distraction.

It's just weird to me for that not to have been public knowledge at least to other coaches because it sort of sets up as a possible tampering violation to continue to contact a student athlete who signed early.

No. Neither the recruit, the NCAA, nor the school are obligated to publicly disclose the signing. What the recruit IS obligated to do is inform other coaching staffs that they have signed so they don’t contact them.

It certainly doesn't seem like they informed Nate of the signing.

Basically another Penny Hardaway situation. Not surprised but I'm not angry. If he was going to Byu then I don't mind us being used as leverage to milk that situation.

I saw that Branham put in a Louisville pick for Mikel Brown yesterday so it doesn’t look like recruiting news is getting any better.
