Id imagine he will try to go to a contender and make a run at the tournament.

But we dont have room here. Wouldnt be surprised to see him at the barn though.

Yeah we have 6 super seniors, all of whom are really good basketball players. You have to assume that there's going to be a lot of self policing when it comes to effort and focus. I expect them to be locked in all season.

Y’all are applying way too much logic to Alabama basketball

No. We get to be a normal program now. No more shooting our own dicks.

Derrion Reid is not 6-7. He's 6-4 or 6-5.

So, now that the roster is set, the current Torvik rankings have us predicted as #11.

I’d put good money on us to finish better than 48 in Def eff this year.

I’d bet we are top 20 defensively. Maybe top 10. Having a rim protector changes every thing. Then we can be aggressive with our guards and runs teams off the 3pt line and make them either challenge Cliff and get their shot blocked or settle for the most inefficient shot in the game(mid range).

ESPN just released their updated bracketology. He put us as their top #2 seed, behind Kansas, Duke, Houston, and UConn.

Bama is better than all of those teams. Only one potentially better is Kansas. Duke is way too young, UConn lost almost everybody of value and Houston lost Shead.

We finished 14th in Torvik last year, only moving up 3 spots with the additions we made seems a bit off.

How do you quantify someone like Cliff coming over? A literal godsend for what we try to do on defense and an offensive scheme that will be much more friendly to him than what he did at Rutgers

Oats is openly saying he thinks we have the roster to get it done and that’s all I care about. It’s a 1 loss and out tournament, so anything can happen. You just want to be one of the 8-12 teams that have a realistic chance at it enough times that it happens.

This year we have the team for this to be our best real chance ever.

I think our offense will remain in the top 10 conservatively but more than likely still in the top 5. It'll be tough to match our numbers when we had a healthy Wrightsell, unfortunately, we lost the top spot in AdjO to UConn after that stretch of Wrightsell being out. We were on pace to have one of the top offenses ever since KenPom began recording.

Defensively, as you mentioned, it is a bit harder to quantify. As Bama fans, we can point back to a couple of years ago when we had Bediako at Center and finished 3rd in defense. We also had a lot more length then compared to last season. This off-season we added Cliff, IMO Bediako 2.0, and some bigger/longer wings and Guards. With Cliff at the rim we'll see a bit less pressure put on our Guards to defend. Reid and Youngblood will help out big time, Nelson should be better. Conservatively probably top 40 but cracking the top 20 is kind of the golden spot.

It really could be what rises all boats. Here is the adjusted defense (on the Y Axis) of every single player in cbb

Over half of the players that have an 87.5 or lower was A) Part of an elite defense and B) A Center or PF

Ryan Dunn-Virginia (6th ranked Defense)
Josiah James and Aidoo-Tennessee (3rd)
Cliff-Rutgers (5th)
Oamar Ballo:-Arizona (8th)
Donovan Clingan-Uconn (4th)
Johni Broome-Auburn (7th)
Francis, Dunn and Roberts-Houston (1st)
King-ISU (2nd)

Obviously there is a measure of chicken versus egg. Great defenders raise the rating of a center. Still, don't be surprised to watch all of our players get a nice boost in defensive analytics because of Cliff

A lot of these metric-based rankings are great during the season, but having this Duke team 5th with them as reliant as they will be on freshmen (of which they have no statistical data to back) before the season starts tells me everything I need to know about their pre-season rankings. Not anything better than a guess like anyone else.

Yeah I just don't get the Duke love. Scheyer is basically trying to recreate the formula that eventually led to the breakdown of the Cal-UK marriage, but it's going to work this time because Duke? I'm not seeing the rationale there.

Only thing I'll say with Houston, is they returned 8 of their top 10 scorers. Though losing a leader and defender like Shead will hurt.

This is a big part of it. Rutgers used him terribly on offense. And his defense probably played a huge part why the other guys in the team defended well.
