That’s the one thing I loved about Grant. It seemed like when he first got here he loved to pressure teams in the backcourt

intrigued to see if we come out playing the same aggressive half court pressure we played the last 10 minutes against Missouri

I've been wondering for 2 years why we don't press more. But, I have my doubts that Nate will do it except in specific situations - like when we're down double digits to a team with no real ball handlers (Missouri). But, I wish he would. More pressure really seems like a perfect fit for Nate's style, especially since this team struggles to defend in the half court. Use our athleticism. Obviously, there's teams we wouldn't want to do it against, but I think in most games it would be a net gain.

So how is a team elite (21st in the Country) at Offensive Rebounding and absolutely awful in Defensive Rebounding (287th)? Because so many of our shots are at the rim? Poor spacing trickling into poor boxing out?

I think, and I have no evidences for this it is just gut instinct, that it has a lot to do with our personel and the types of misses we have on offense. We are spaced out, shoot tons of 3s and so we miss a lot of shots long. Teams are chasing us around, which inherently means we are harder to box out. And, this years team specifically has some pretty good and long guys who get good breaks on the ball.

The defensive end is almost the same except flipped. We're always chasing and out of position on defense, therefore when a shot goes up it's hard to find our man to stick an arse in him and box out, and we don't have all that many great interior rebounders.

Just some initial takeaways from perusing each Alabama's players individual page on ShotQuality

Charles Bediako
- 100th percentile in frequency attacking the rim (95% of the time)
- 95th percentile in free throw rate (when he gets the ball he draws a lot of fouls) (the flip side, 25th percentile in FT shooting)
- 17th percentile in efficient roll to the basket (bad)
- 13th percentile in spacing on offense (terrible)

Jahvon Quinerly
- 84th percentile in efficient 3PT shooting (even with the bad run lately - still taking good shots)
- 83rd percentile in spacing on offense
- 32nd percentile in attacking the rim (big problem the last month)
- 32nd percentile in free throw rate (driving to the rim and missing shots PLUS not drawing fouls - not good)

JD Davison
- 86th percentile in free throw rate
- 68th percentile in transition efficiency (get my man on the break)
- 67th percentile in spacing on offense (decent)

Keon Ellis
- 97th percentile in spacing on offense (elite)
- 96th percentile in creating own shot (elite)
- 94th percentile in efficienct 3PT shooting (getting great looks)
- 92nd percentile in free throw shooting
- 86th percentile in efficiently attacking the rim
KEON ELLIS - DO MORE STUFF!

Jaden Shackelford
- 91st percentile in spacing on offense (elite)
- 75th percentile in defensive rebounding
- 68th percentile in efficient in transition
- 19th percentile in efficiently attacking the rim (awful, least shocking stat I've ever seen)

Darius Miles
- 84th percentile in efficient 3PT shooting (another one getting good looks, be cool if everyone made them)
- 78th percentile in spacing on offense (again, signs of the offense running smoothly)

Juwan Gary
- 83rd percentile in offensive rebounding
- 80th percentile in efficiently attacking the rim
- 78th percentile in effective cutter
- 3rd percentile in efficient 3PT shooting (maybe shelve this one)

Noah Gurley
- 71st percentile in efficient 3PT shooting

Keon Ambrose-Hylton
- 75th percentile offensive rebounding (good)
- 1st percentile in spacing on offense (and this is why he does not play)

Ok - poll question - what do you think is the BEST and WORST offensive play that we run in terms of point per possession?

And when I say "play" I mean "Player Name + type of shot + distance of shot". Example - "Britton Johnson.......guarded catch....shoot 3 pt shot"

Types of "plays"
- post up
- pick and roll drive
- pick and roll shoot
- isolation off dribble
- open catch
- drive to left/right

Example: Jaden Shackelford guarded catch and shoot 3 point jump shot - 58 occurrences, 0.95 PPP, 59th percentile nationally

I'm very curious to see how these match up

BEST: Shack/Ellis/Miles open catch & shoot 3-pointer.

WORST: Davison iso dribble drive when he doesn't draw a foul.

Shack in isolation then drive left (don't think he ever goes right).

You know he is shooting it no matter what and there is no chance of a kick out.

Either Gary baseline cut for layup or PicknRoll alley to Chuck.

Or JD driving for Layup

I don't know what to do other than laugh at the fact that it makes zero difference whether Gary is guarded or not.

This actually makes sense to me. I think Gurley's best attribute so far is his ability to make athletic moves to the basket and finish them.

quote:

Noah Gurley
- 71st percentile in efficient 3PT shooting

I clearly just don't completely understand the criteria here (maybe it was mentioned and I've just been skimming). Is it just that he's taking open 3s? He's 11-40, 27%.
