They could have made every FT they shot and they would have lost by 16 and we would have covered the spread easily
And by that same token, we get a few more of those early threes to fall, and score well over 100.
I felt like we played sort of "as needed" offensively last night, as in every time LA Tech made any sort of run, we countered with a quick flurry that got them back out of sorts.
In other words, even if they were hitting, it seemed like we had an answer, we just didn't need to keep the hammer down all night.

Yea - you don't want to take too much away from one game, but this team seems diverse enough with drivers, shooters and bigs to be much more drought/recession proof offensively than last years team was. Ellis, Davison, Quinerly and Shack are all elite drive and decision guys. 2-3 of those guys are going to be on the floor at all times. Then, you have Bediako and/or Gary on the floor to clean up. Then, you have the remaining non-driving wings noted above plus a guy like Miles out on the wings or in the corner spotted.
We have so many guys who can get their own shot and then in turn get other guys shots (which is the entire nucleus of our offense)......you have to have 2-3 elite wing defenders to keep us out of the paint consistently and then recover and defend the 3.

On cue - another SI write up just dropped
Alabama Showcases Abundance of Offensive Weapons in Season Opener
Alabama basketball showed just how dangerous its guard-centric offense can be against Louisiana Tech.

Pretty sure Gary had a one-handed dunk too that was assisted by KAH
He had a sort of dunk on a rebound follow up. Hard to call it a dunk but he did maybe get his hand on the rim?
I really can't get over how composed we were last night. I said before the game we'd start a little slow since we had so many new faces, but every one played their role, and other than Gurley they all had a great night. I think Gurley got out of sorts early when he got whistled for 2 moving screens in the first half. He seemed to be pressing the rest of the game, and his body language just showed frustration. Good to see him hit a shot towards the end. I hope to see him bounce back Friday night.

I am fully prepared for an absolute CLUNKER on Friday night

Dude, Ellis and Gary were en fuego all over the court. I can't tell you how excited I am about what they bring this year.
Then throw in a guy like Davison with 12/6/6 in his debut, and even Ambrose-Hylton who got us great minutes in a bad spot.
Hell, I forgot about Miles until you mentioned him, and he even started strong off the bench.
Really, really good start to the year, and somehow exceeded even my best expectations (against what should end up being a sneaky good team).
As a side note, I'm still curious how we use Holt. He and Ambrose seem like those 9-10 guys.

If things go smoothly on offense Friday it's going to take everything in my power not to dive into the hype feet first.

If Miles keeps hitting those NBA range 3s and playing reliable defense he's going to stay in the rotation all season. He is looooooooong too. I bet his wingspan is well over 7 feet. Even if he's not a naturally great defender, as long as he's active and energetic on that end he's going to be an asset.

What happened on that play?
I was at the game, and our in-house replay system is still atrocious (as are the stats, which were wrong all night), but it almost looked like the ball just got away from him before he could get to the rim.

I immediately fell asleep on the couch after Tyler's putback, so I missed all the celebrating here (the 3 voodoo rangers probably contributed). But, I have zero complaints with game 1. It was just solid all around. It would have been different if they'd had one of those red hot 3pt shooting games and blew La Tech out. But, this was just good play with good, but repeatable, shooting.

This was my exact takeaway walking out.
If we'd have had one of those nights, we were putting up 125.
Like SOG mentioned, this team seems extremely diverse in ways to put points on the board. We were driving the baseline like madmen in the first half.

Holt looked bulkier than I expected. For some reason I thought he was going to come in as a twig and might take a year to put some weight on.

Defender slid over just as he was going up and kind of hip checked him, altering his trajectory and knocking the ball loose.

I went to bed with us up 15 and we win by five. I liked what I saw up til I turned in..Dont at me but Rolltide.com is my source and they yad 73-68
nothing has changed with Shack as he had 5 TO's and 6 points.
FT shooting has improved.
La Tech would have won that game if they had better FT shooting. at one point they were like 3 for 15
I like the new players a lot
Lol. That's a lot of opinions formed from looking at a box score. That's a bit of a FoG move. Being the wrong box score makes it hilarious.
Edit: I'll give some respect for leaving it up, rather than deleting it.

Ahh, makes sense.
I think we got robbed of another one under the basket when JD broke a dude down and was just about to spin around (for what looked like a posterizing), when they blew the play dead.
That boy got some hops.

I took it as Ellis had to change his jump trajectory to scrape a defender in the paint so he didnt catch a potential charge

That Sports Illustrated Fan Nation website, is that basically a blog site, or actual writers creating an si version of a team site?

Yeah, they called a blocking foul on the defender just as he made his move to the basket. He was definitely about to throw it down.

When they showed him afterwards, you could tell her really wanted to get it. He had that excited disappointment on his face.
