zags line out yet?

Mark Turgeon out at Maryland. He's been Oated.

He's a great coach if your ambition as a program is to be a pretty good team and make the tournament, but you're also OK with rarely doing anything once you get there. UGA or South Carolina should try to hire him.

Blows my mind that I can get a line for a Turkish Women’s Developmental League game this weekend, but don’t have a spread yet for Bama v Gonzaga.

The No. 16/16 Alabama men's basketball team has made the 2,581-mile trek from Tuscaloosa, Ala., to Seattle, Wash., where it will take on the No. 3/3 Gonzaga Bulldogs in the "Battle in Seattle" Saturday night at 7 p.m. CT (5 p.m. PT) on ESPN2. Bama. Is. COMIN.
the recipe is there. we have the speed, shooting, depth, and defensive ability to beat them for sure. just have to go out and do it.

Yeah, I wouldn't be worried about Maryland.
Don't forget that the people like Goodman complained about us firing Avery Johnson and called us greedy for wanting better. They believe Alabama can be nothing but a football school and will continue to look down on us.

Nate Oats, Alabama and Bruce Pearl, Auburn: Neither of these guys seem all that eager to leave, but both would bring some much-needed energy to the program. Oats has had enormous success almost immediately in Tuscaloosa. The 61-year-old Pearl's case would be trickier, given his issues at both Auburn and Tennessee, but he is close to Under Armour people given Auburn's deal with the shoe company, and Maryland is also a UA school. And if Turgeon's inability to excite the Maryland fan base was an issue, Pearl certainly would solve that problem. Both Oats and Pearl are currently at football-first schools, so a move to a basketball school could be attractive. It might be worth the call.
I would expect Oats to be mentioned for any “big name” job that opens up for the next couple years until he either establishes himself at Alabama and stays or jumps at a bigger opportunity. Such is the nature of success.

If JQ continues to struggle with his shot and JD keeps playing like he did against Miami....does Oats swap them out in the starting rotation?
Posted on 12/3/21 at 3:33 pm to mistaken4193
No. You don't take one of your best players and bench him after 7 games when you are 6-1 imo.
Posted on 12/3/21 at 3:35 pm to mistaken4193
I think Coach Oats should bring him off the bench anyway because he's a better 6 man.
Posted on 12/3/21 at 3:36 pm to McGregor
He did it last year and it benefitted both him and the team. It's not always a bad thing.

I wouldn't mind seeing JQ come back off the bench eventually but your scenario are two big "ifs"
JQ is too good of a player to not find his stroke, we've had players before come out cold and get heated up after a few weeks of play. With JD, we're currently at the point of we don't know what we're going to get each night. It'll be interesting to see how the rotations shake out come conference play.

It seems like Oats’ family is enjoying Tuscaloosa and his recruiting is off the charts right now. I don’t think he’s at risk in the next 2-3 yrs and he also doesn’t strike me as a person that will jump to make a little more money. If his recruiting starts to suffer for some reason and he doesn’t feel like he can compete at the highest level (build the man a new arena ASAP), then we might be at risk. But if he’s able to compete for SEC Championships and Final Four appearances, I don’t think he leaves. He’s already said he isn’t a guy that likes to have all the spotlight on him, so having Saban next door may actually be beneficial rather than a detriment (again, assuming investments in football don’t hinder investments in Bball).

Imo, Maryland isn't the kind of program with that kind of pull. They were fortunate that Gary Williams played at Maryland or else they wouldn't have pulled him from OSU back in the day. He always struggled to locked down the local talent and his nc team was like the first national champion w/o any McDs.
