Fingers crossed. If we can get a win Sunday, this won’t be that bad of a tournament although it’s felt like that watching them.

Winning ugly is better than losing, but there are a ton of issues that need to be worked out with this team.

Just 8 points and 3 rebounds, but the big story of that game was Gurley starting to look like the guy we hoped he would be.

I quit watching. So we won!!?

This team looks very similar to last year's team at this point in the season.
Our half court offense is awful, way too many turnovers, very little ball movement.
But for as bad as it looks at times..if we make foul shots, we are still undefeated.
Team is a work in progress

No doubt Gurley came up huge the last 8 min, but Gary’s contribution can’t be understated. MVP of the game IMO

I noticed Oats wasn’t f’ing around in the 2nd half.
Because that bench was SHORT short for the last 15-17 minutes

Game turned in our favor after Ellis’s 3-pointer.

We really need him to be more aggressive. He’s an efficient shooter and a solid scorer.

I think there’s definitely some things we need to improve on, but if we finish 2-1 in this tournament, we’ll be where I expected we’d be by this point in the season, just losing at a different point in the tournament than I thought.
The last quarter of the game was encouraging. We played aggressive and let our transition game and half court offense flow through each other. We definitely have some things we need to work on, but pats teams have always gotten better throughout the season, which is the difference between this staff and previous ones.
Now onto the death row of our schedule. Lets hope we can take at least one and possibly steal another. That would be a huge success.

4-2 in the next 6, including Sunday is a success, with 5-1 or better meaning Oats better get another raise and extension…like immediately…do not pass go, do not wait to collect $200mm for a new arena. 9-3 going into SEC is a good start against this schedule.

Got to have the win over Miami. Oats doesn't really have many big nonconference wins at Bama so far. Kansas St and Maryland are it.

I haven’t been able to watch much ball today, but I caught the back end of our game. I didn’t realize that Dayton had beaten Kansas until a couple minutes ago. What the hell happened there?
I was kinda pissed at AG for having the success that he’s had at Dayton, but then I realized they have losses to a directional Massachusetts school, Lipscomb, and Austin Peay. They followed it up with a big win over Miami and a buzzer beater to upset Kansas, so apparently the world is still in order.

Kansas shot even worse than we did from the FT line

Alabama is favored by 6 1/2 and win by nine.
Now go back and read what was said about the team and coach during the game.

We played really well for about 5 or 6 minutes in the first half and played well for the last 4 minutes to end the game. We were shite other than that

And the final result was a win and a line cover...hard to ask for more.

Again, I missed most of the game today, but it does make me wonder if Oats is starting to identify the groups and rotations that we’re going to see getting most of the substantial playing time moving forward. Hard to say without watching the game, but we only played 8 guys today. We’ve played 10+ in three games this year and nine in the other two. If that’s the case, KAH, Holt, and Tchikou are going to be clapping a lot this year, and honestly, I’d be ok with that.
A group of JQ, JD, Shack, Ellis, Miles, Gary, Gurley, and Bediako has the talent to compete with anyone if they’re playing smart and tough. The talent is clearly there, but the cohesiveness definitely isn’t. It feels like everyone, including the vets, still aren’t sure exactly what everyone’s role is right now. It kills movement in half court sets (which have been abysmal so far this season) and creates lapses on defense because these kids still aren’t on the same page. If we don’t have a “go to” group and one or two guys bringing fire off the bench in the next week or so, the end of our OOC schedule is going to be painful.
It’s unrealistic to have 10 guys playing substantial minutes anyway. It’s hard to get comfortable and gain any confidence when we have guys playing 3 minute stretches at every break. If we can get that solid core of 8 guys playing consistently and confidently, we’ll be fine.
ETA: These are the bourbon induced ramblings of someone that only watched the second half today, so take them with a grain of salt. We had a lot of incoming talent and it’s probably a good idea to see how that meshes early the year, but as talented as they may be, we can’t play ‘em all and still expect to have any guys that know it’s their time to take over in a close conference game with 4:00 minutes left.
