Shack is a great option catching and shooting 3s. It's what we need him to be a difference maker doing. To do that Ellis and JD have to join JQ in aggressiveness.

Ellis has been a very consistent shooter as well.

Lol no! Shack takes the most shots but he's not the better shooter. If Keon took as many shots as Shack you would know.
Literally every coach we play against disagrees due to how they defend Shack. He’s being defended with the respect a shooter of his caliber deserves. He’s the best shooter we have, he just also happens to have the worst shot selection as well. I know he infuriates all of us at times, but lets not take for granted what he does bring to the table.

I love Keon. Keon is probably our best player and no doubt our best 2-way player. He needs to be more aggressive on the offensive end, but he can be as good as he wants to be this year. I hope he knows that too.

I agree with that. And JQ needs to STAY aggressive. Nobody can stay in front of him. He needs to keep the defense scrambling.

Well, imo, you learn way more from a sloppy loss than a sloppy win. Maybe this will motivate the guys and keep it a game into the second half next week.

He has a pretty damn good career 3pt shooting percentage.

106-270 for 39%

For comparison, Shack

161-458 35%

The difference here, is that Shack has amassed his stats Vs stronger competition.

I believe Ellis has shot a whopping 73 3s in his time at Bama.

While he's had a decent percentage, it's a small sample size.

I'm pretty sure you're not debating whether Keon is better from 3 than Shack.

Shack is a "good" shooter that shoots a lot. There's nothing particularly great about his 3pt shooting. I'm fine with him letting them fly because he shoots a good percentage. But, he's not spectacular or anything. Keon shoots as well, or better, and should probably shoot more. His percentage MIGHT go down with more shots, but shooting is shooting and he was already known as a good shooter before he ever arrived at Bama.

I would. Shack has an inconsistent form and that's why he's not consistent from deep. I noticed Coach Oats said there will be changes. I'm telling you all right now that if JD starts from now on this will be a much BETTER team and a HARDER team to beat.

I’m just hopeful we don’t let this loss manifest and turn a bad game into an 0-3 or 1-2 showing. The schedule gets way too hard not to win these next two games and try to improve while doing so.

It wouldn't surprise me if we see JQ and Shack come off the bench!

And where the hell is Tchikaou? Guy ain’t doing shite with his cameo appearances. We need to get him involved if he’s as good as he’s supposed to be.

If you take Shack & his 3 point shooting off of this team, we're fricked.

And I'm not a huge fan of Shack btw..

He isn't there yet but he's coming along. Your problem is the lack of ball movement and assists. JQ can get his at anytime but he's not getting players around him involved and the same goes to Shack.

I'm not disagreeing with that. We need him. He's not scared to shoot it.

Not at all. We got plenty of shooters but Shack just take majority of the shots so therefore nobody else gets in a rhythm.

I really don’t think they gave their best effort tonight and it doesn’t seem like the team has an alpha dog competitor that hates to lose like the greatest competitors do (Jordan, Saban, etc.). That kind of fierce competitiveness is contagious, especially if the person is a vocal leader. Herb did it by example last year, and you even heard guys in press conferences talk about it motivating them. The guys that seem to have the drive, will to win, and hatred of losing seem to be JD, Miles, and Gary, but they aren’t the current leaders. JQ, Ellis, and even Shack are pretty good players, but they don’t seem to have that extra gear of competitive nature that comes out in all situations. Conversely, the coaching staff all seem to have that competitive nature but it isn’t transferring to the leaders right now…Oats seems like he would be super competitive even if playing his daughter in tiddlywinks.

I expect we will surprise at least 1 and probably 2 of the 4 quality OOC teams we have coming up as the guys will be motivated to play their best and be laser focused. Hopefully we can take these next 2 and learn to play with max effort even when we’re favored by double digits (and make free throws, obviously). We’re still good, but got to clean some things up before Gonzaga or that one will be ugly. Memphis and Houston could be close by just giving max effort.

I think we've seen between last year and this one that we've struggled when the defense doesn't pull off and help as much and made us finish.
Whether it's finishing at the rim or free throws, we've got to get more consistent. It's the only way to open up the perimeter shots.

It's also vital that the right guys are driving. Shacks strength is catch and shoot and he needs to be more selective with his driving. Also, when Q drives, he needs to make better shot selections. Sometimes the floater or lane jump shot is the better option. JD needs to look to score more but obviously needs to hit free throws. He will be there a lot this season. Keon needs to be more aggressive on offense.
Getting more lane touches for Bediako, Gary and Alex will help open the perimeter too.

Tonight was ugly but it was the first game on the road in a tournament setting. We are relying heavily on two freshmen also. We need to give it some time. Still think we have the potential to do better than last season.

Today was not game for Tchikou to get involved. We need to have better control of the game for him to get meaningful minutes. Hope that happens soon. Definitely need him down the stretch.
For the Shack bashers he is also our second leading rebounder. 19.4 ppg and 7.44 rpg behind Ellis's 8.2 rpg.
Guy has deficiencies but is an excellent player. Fishback was saying Shack was his POY in the SEC over Pippens kid.

I love this take right here. I really think when it's all said and done JD will be the Alpha dog for this team.

I've actually been shocked he's been our second leading rebounder but there's other things that he needs to improve on to better this TEAM and that's not playing with TUNNEL VISION & he's not the only one because JQ does it to. I love Shack because he's not afraid of anything really.
