ha im glad avery didnt long put you out of your misery then. ill say this for grant since im sure all the negatives have long been covered on here. despite the flaws, what i did appreciate about him was his no nonsense attitude. he always stood by his principles even at the jeopardy of his job. mitchells clowning finally got him off the team right before the tourney. did it cost us? yep. did lacey leaving to have more ''fun'' also cost us? yep. didnt matter, grant was going to have these kids leave bama as men either way, a trait i respect a great deal. esp in todays atmospherphere of bowing to players, and creating safe spaces and feelings seminars whenever a player gets a papercut, old school principles like that are a breath of fresh. thankfully oats seems to have the exact same mentality, but with superior coaching techniques.

Well, they also changed the rules about touching the man dribbling the ball. You cant impede the progress of the dribbler. Grant believed in hard nosed defense, and full court defense. They changed that rule right after we hired Grant.

Oklahoma coach Porter Moser hits a home run by hiring Arkansas assistant David Patrick.

On a side note, not sure anyone has gone through more assistants in a six-year span than Eric Musselman between his time at Nevada and two years in Fayetteville.

quote:

Musselman will enter his seventh season as head coach in the college ranks next season — and he’ll have 16 different assistant coaches in that span.

That just might be a record.

It's actually pretty impressive that Musselman has been as successful as he has been when he is literally the only constant in his program from year to year. The staff and roster are an endless revolving door.

That’s not fair to Pollard. He was only here for 1 season and got 18 minutes a game as a true freshman. That’s not a bad start.

He averaged 14 a game as a senior at Houston. He may well have turned into a solid player at Bama too had his mother nor been nuts and got him tangled up in her kidnapping plot.

The Athletic - Winners during men's CBB transfer portal silly season

6. ALABAMA

quote:

Speaking of Auburn, Furman transfer Noah Gurley listed the Tigers as one of his eight finalists when he entered the transfer portal, and Auburn fans were reasonably excited about the prospect of landing a proven, productive 6-foot-8 small forward. He went to Alabama instead. Alas. This is an unfair thing to say, because Gurley is his own dude and also these are big shoes to fill, but it is a bit hard to think of a more ideal replacement for departing SEC Player of the Year Herb Jones than the former Paladin. At 6-foot-8 with a massive wingspan, Gurley looks like nothing if not Jones, all rangy limbs and skills that catch you off guard. It’s a long way to go to anchor everything Alabama did on the defensive end this season the way Jones did, but Gurley is at least a like-for-like addition that gives Nate Oats a similar profile of player at a crucial spot on the floor.

Elsewhere, the Tide picked up former Texas Tech freshman Nimari Burnett, an elite recruit who played big minutes in Tech’s first 12 games before opting out of the rest of the season. He’s probably going to be really good, likely sooner rather than later, but in any case he’s also joining one of just three power-conference teams in the country who didn’t have a player enter the portal this spring. Alabama added key guys without losing any of its crucial returnees, and boy, oh boy, the Oats project is fully off to the races now. Look out.

That was bad, but if he decided to take lessons over the offseason he has a bit to work with. Most of what makes his swing so bad is that his hips and legs are doing zero work when they are what actually control your swing. If you're all arms and shoulders you get no depth on your backswing and don't generate any power on your follow-through.

They said on the radio Saban takes lessons and has a swing coach out there with him.

Oats just needs someone to teach him. Even though him being bad at golf is a good thing IMO

They talked to Oats on WJOX this morning about the excitement over Ala basketball after the ncaa tournament run. Oat said yes, we have Ala basketball fans spring up everywhere. Hopefully we can sell out Coleman for all the home games next season, and hopefully we get the new arena built soon.

Auburn spent 86M on their new arena so we should have plenty of money to build a new one.

Pro - Raised $415M of $600M in the middle of COVID stuff.

Con - "exploring options and coming up with a plan" is not exactly we're about to get started on things type language.

Nate Oats doesn't expect any other #Alabama players to enter NBA draft

"I think (Shackelford and Primo) will be the only two underclassmen that'll test the waters from what I've heard."

I am surprised Quinerly isn't testing the waters but won't be mad if he doesn't.
