Is Matt McMahon a good coach? Or is he just a product of where he was? This is why you should never hire a MidMajor coach from Murray State, VCU, or Dayton. They All win at those places

Bingo. Those programs, for whatever reason, run themselves. Doesn't mean that you can't find a good coach there, but just because a guy wins there means nothing.

#4 Arizona is losing @Stanford. I'll be surprised if Arizona loses but would be a pretty bad loss for them, Lunardi has them as the last one seed currently.

Arizona has some weird losses, but that happens when you are average defensively like they are.

This would be a horrid loss. Stanford is awful.

That and hiring the coach that pulls off 1st round upset are my biggest pet peeves when hiring a coach.

I didn’t realize that for as much love as Bruce has gotten and deservedly so that he’s only made the tournament 3 times at Auburn and out of the first weekend once. Just seems like his run at AU has been a lot more.

It’s perspective. They only have 11 tourney appearances in their entire history. If they make it this year, he’ll be second to only Sonny Smith’s 5 trips.

They’ve been a #1 seed and they have a final four, but historically their basketball program hasn’t been nearly as successful as Alabama’s.

Last couple of years have been some really good hires

Oats
Muss
Gates
Jan’s
Buzz

This is probably the strongest collection of coaches the SEC has ever had. Ain’t no hiring fricking Rick Rays anymore

Yep - hired some competent ADs who care about all sports and also got a bunch more money to spend on basketball.

If Oregon can find a way to beat UCLA tonight, we may have a 2 loss cushion for a #1 seed. That’s insane!

#7 UCLA @Oregon coming up should be a good game. UCLA's favored by 1.5

Oregon is playing pretty well right now, too.

Pac 12 is a pretty fun league. It's not great, but the top half of it is pretty solid - Arizona, USC, UCLA and then Utah, Az St, Oregon.

Brandon Miller briefly showed up on internet flight trackers this afternoon. Pentagon almost scrambled the F-22s.

It really depends to me. If it's a guy at a traditionally strong mid-major where pretty much every coach seems to do well I think it really depends on whether they run good stuff and whether they have a pretty easily identifiable playing style. If it's a first round upset type guy, what were the 3-4 years before that upset like? 2 other tournament trips that didn't yield a win and it's intriguing. Some losing seasons and hovering around .500 in conference play? No thanks.

Side note: this psychotic Stanford fan the broadcast mic is picking up is great.

Up 10 with 1:30 left…give up 4 pt play. Interesting strategy by Stanford there

Don’t get me wrong. I wasn’t shitting on his accomplishments at all. Just in my mind it seemed like he’d done a lot more than that.

I wouldn't be shocked if they snuck in the tournament.

They’re 17-8 overall and 5-7 in the conference right now. Last 6 games are

Kentucky, aTm, USCe at home and Ole Miss, Mizzou, Vandy on the road.

The way they are playing now, the path is wide open for them.

Nate was technically a 1st round upset guy but he followed it up with another NCAAt win the next year. So it was a good choice

But Chris Beard was a 1 time upset guy and he worked out also.

It all does depend
