Thank god we are lucky enough to have him

If we keep him will come down to if he feels he can recruit and win here as well as he could at whatever other school is offering him I think moreso than money. So really the only ones I worry about are your true bball schools/blue bloods. Him and Byrne have a good relationship and that means a lot. Hopefully a new arena will be built soon enough to help too.

That sounds debbie downerish I didnt mean to.
He hasn't done enough for a UNC or Duke ect to want to hire him yet, that would be years away and he would have won a NC here or been to a lot of final 4's. Our future is bright, I think he will be here a long time.
I just hope we step up to the plate in Bball and I think we will now that we have the right coach to do it with.
This contract is a big step, he is now the 4th highest-paid coach in the SEC and top 10 in the country.

In addition to the salary and talent fee, Oats also has incentives in his contract at both the SEC and NCAA level. For the SEC, Oats receives a $50,000 bonus if the Crimson Tide wins or has a share in the conference's regular season title, and another $50,000 should the team win the SEC Tournament.
At the NCAA level, Oats will receive a $50,000 bonus if the Crimson Tide makes the tournament as well as $25,000 for each subsequent game the team wins. However, once the team reaches the Final Four, the bonus for a win is increased to $300,000.
Should the team win the national title, Oats would bring in a bonus of $500,000. Should Oats win SEC Coach of the Year, he receives a bonus of $25,000. If named National Coach of the Year, he would receive a $50,000 bonus.
It should be noted that all of Oats' incentive bonuses are cumulative.

being a devils advocate here but what have the current UNC and Duke coaches done as a HC prior to being named the HC at their Alma Mater. At least Oats has a history at Buffalo.
He is still a young man and will be getting a 200K raise each year. I assume there are some incentives for winning the SEC regular season, The SEC tournament, Making the dance and advancing.

I think Nate recognizes and understands that basketball will always play second fiddle to football. You'd have to be real dumbass to think otherwise and Nate is a pretty smart guy.
I think he's totally fine with that to a point. As long as he feels like he's getting the support he needs (and deserves) to build and maintain the program and his legacy, he is probably more than happy. But he isn't going to just sit around forever and let the gap of support between football and basketball grow larger and larger.
He has enough awareness to know that his success here up to now has given him a little bit of a louder voice when it comes to certain things and now he is putting himself in a position of leverage. I've been a fan of the basketball program for a long time and have bitched and moaned plenty of times about how it feels like we never get what we want or need while the football program gets every bell and whistle upgrade imaginable. Nate is doing all of us basketball fans a service by putting some pressure on the real decision makers in a way that us fans would never be able to.
Let's get the arena done within the next 2-3 years and by that time maybe we can get Oats another extension that runs through 2035.

Love the Nate quote.
what do we think the spread will be tomorrow in red stick?
I'm going with -14.5

I might be wrong but I think this puts Oats as the 7th or 8th highest paid Bball coach in the country. Thats big for Alabama bball.
Props to Byrne for stepping up to the plate. Makes me pretty optimistic that getting the arena done will be a huge priority going forward too.

idk what the spread will be but I'd be surprised if we don't win by 20+ LSU looks like they have given up.
That being said we can't take them lightly, SEC road games arent gimmes and LSU does have some talented players.

As long as Greg Byrne is here...I'm not worried about Nate Oats contract or the New Arena because he's going to get it done PERIOD.
Mark off the contract!!

What I'm hearing is "it's really great here. I like it here. It'd be a real shame if there's no new arena and Saban keeps getting all the NIL money though."
Not having any professional sports in Alabama I think our bball program could be a sleeping giant. Alabama fans certainly love winning in college sports and if we get where we can do it consistently in CBB and keep the excitement up I think the donors will come through with a new arena, and whatever Oats wants/needs to win big really.
Let's be honest when Oats got here the excitement level among the fanbase was very low, so of course it was hard to get money for bball. Right now the excitement level is as high as its been in a long time.

Nate Oats is a straight shooter and I really believe he wants to be here a long time and Alabama has a lot of history as far as basketball goes.
Coach Oats is building his own BRAND right here in Tuscaloosa and he's turning us into a powerhouse basketball school so I don't know if a blue blood will be able to pull him simply because they already have a BRAND built at whatever school it is.
It's real LOVE here with Oats...he wants to be here.
Just my opinion.
