And that's not even the worst buyout in college basketball. Georgetown is staring down the barrel of a second consecutive season of 0 conference wins and if they fire Ewing they owe him almost $20 million.

Only propram i worry about is UK bc they prove they will spend the bank on a coach.
Texas would be wise to give that Iowa State coach a look or Darian Devries. Jeff Boal is another guy, longtime Thad Matta disciple.

Im not liking seeing Clowney going in round 1 of mock drafts already. Happy for him but I hope we get his at least two years.
He really could develop into potentially a top 15 pick if he comes back next year. He will have a decision to make in a few months.

After Chris Beard’s Firing, Who Might Texas Target in Its Coaching Search?
Less than a month after Chris Beard’s arrest on felony assault charges, Texas announced Thursday it has fired its men’s basketball coach. Beard was indefinitely suspended following the domestic violence charge, which occurred midway through his second season with the Longhorns, who currently sit at No. 6 in the AP poll. The move completes a precipitous fall from grace for Beard, one of the industry’s fastest risers in the last decade from non–Division I coach to Texas’s $5 million man.
It also opens one of the nation’s most well-resourced jobs, at a place that can command some of the sport’s biggest names thanks to its financial might—despite the fact that the program last reached the NCAA tournament’s second weekend in 2008. Here’s a look at who could be in the mix for the Longhorns’ job this time around.

Nate Oats, Alabama
Oats has built an impressive program at Alabama, continuing his meteoric rise from high school coach in Michigan to one of the sport’s most prominent names. He led Alabama to an SEC title in 2020–21 and, after a down ’21–22, has the Tide back in conference-contender status this season behind elite recruit Brandon Miller. His teams play an appealing style, and he’s familiar with the challenges of a football-first job.
One roadblock is Oats’s contract, which includes a buyout of nearly $10 million should he leave after this season. Texas’s firing Beard for cause does leave the Longhorns with a bit more money to spend, but that’s still a major number—especially considering the type of financial package that would be required to pull Oats from Tuscaloosa.

I'd like to keep him around for another year too, but if he gets a first round guarantee from anyone he has to take it. It's just nice to have players the NBA wants. We went a long time without having many.

We're higher in gross totals because we get a lot of offensive rebounds due to our tempo (and rebounding %). But the chart shows we're probably near the top in rebounding % too, in the 10-15 range.
Just looked it up - we're #14. LINK
Cool link. Thanks
To break it down further, we're #65 in defensive rebound% at 76.8% and #21 in offensive rebound% at 34%. Overall we're #14 at 55.5%.
Pretty damn solid. If we were stronger in the defensive rebounds, it'd be over.

I would not want to be #1 in a bracket if it meant Houston, Gonzaga, and Baylor as the 2,3,4. frick that. But aside from that, that's pretty cool.

Joka, I’m scared about Saturday. We are getting a DESPERATE Kentucky team and that is never good.
I’m worried

We are DESPERATE too. We will be FOCUSED and READY to play Saturday.
I'm excited for the matchup because I know they are coming with everything they got.
But in the words of the great John Petty Jr... "ANYBODY CAN GET IT"

Do you guys think Texas is a better program than Bama? If we could match their offer what reason would he have to go there?

No. Texas has more money, but both programs are in the good not great category. Better than most P-6 programs but a clear step below the best.

Texas has instate talent and arena over us but I'm not sure it's something that would motivate Oats to move for.

I don't know if it's the edible I took after getting my kid to bed or if it's because this is a UCLA rivalry game, but Bill Walton is really enjoyable during this USC-UCLA game. The basketball talk and off tangent rambling is closer to a 50/50 split instead of 90/10 in favor of the off tangent rambling.
