SI write ups from today’s press conferences

Alabama Basketball's Veterans Keeping Positive Attitudes with Fewer Minutes

According to Nate Oats and the players, there are no "cancers" on the Crimson Tide.

Alabama Basketball Not Falling for Trap Game Against Ole Miss

Even though Kentucky will be in town Saturday, Nate Oats and the team are focused on the next game against the Rebels.

Did nobody ask Oats about the Plan for Davin Cosby today? I assume he only plays this year if we hit a catastrophic level of injuries like we did in Oats first year

Nvm….literally 1st question

I think we all heard he would redshirt this year. Coming in midyear is different for basketball, but at least 10 class of '23 football players enrolled for bowl practice. Likely Cosby graduated early like those football players, and since we have an open scholarship, he went on and enrolled. It is a win/ win for him and the Bama team.

Draftables prospect of the week: Noah Clowney

Noah Clowney will make his debut in The Draftables when volume two is released later this week.

Clowney was a consensus top-100 prospect in the country last year, but not perceived as a potential one-and-done candidate. In the last four weeks, that perception has begun to shift rapidly.

His breakout game came against South Dakota State with a 22-point, 9-rebound, 4-assist effort. He followed that up with 16 points and 11 rebounds against Houston, then 11 and 9 (along with 3 blocks) against Memphis, and 9 and 13 against Gonzaga. He then opened league play with 12 points and 8 rebounds in 24 minutes on the road at Mississippi State

On the season, he is now averaging 9.8 points and 8.8 rebounds in just 23.9 minutes per night, while shooting 51.2% from the floor.

From an analytics perspective, the Alabama freshman rates exceptionally well both in terms of his rebounding rate, particularly on the defensive end of the floor, as well as his two-point field goal percentage.

In terms of the eye-test, Clowney is an extremely intriguing long-term prospect, both because of the rate at which he’s ascending, but also because of the versatility of his tools. Offensively, while he’s efficient around the rim, he also has clear shooting potential as he’s shown by going 9-23 from behind the arc in those last five games. He even shows flashes of being able to put the ball on the floor to attack close-outs.

He’s quick off his feet athletically and able to fly around the court defensively, not just in the open floor, but also in the half-court.

He’ll be listed as a potential first-round candidate in volume two of The Draftables, but is a prospect whose stock could potentially continue to evolve rapidly in the coming weeks and months.

Is Ole Miss a pretty good defensive team? What about their offense? Just wanna get more insight on their team. Anyone watched them?

I watched them drag Tennessee into an ugly game last week

The analytic ranking I like to look at (Torvik) has Ole Miss as the 123rd ranked offense and the 56th ranked defense. They do a good job offensively rebounding and forcing turnovers. On the flip side, they turn it over a lot and are 280th in 3pt%.

Looking forward to watching them hit 60% of them tonight.
