It could just be in my head but I feel like every time he’s in the game we just get in a funk.

I don't know if this is something that is tracked or not, but I'd be curious to see what difference, if any, there is in our tempo with JQ on and off the court. Because it feels to me like when he's in the game the pace goes from fast to ludicrous speed and that frequently causes the offense to break its flow and get chaotic.

What amazes me about Gurley is he either makes the shot or it’s nowhere close. He never has shots that rim out or back iron. It’s 100% all or nothing.

The number of times he nearly airballs a wide open, in rhythm 3 is astonishing. I genuinely have no idea how that dude wrecked us a couple of years ago.

On a team without another option at PG you let him play through this funk. On a team with Sears and Bradley…?

I was all for letting him play through the funk in OOC play. In conference, these games mean more.

I know Bamafan talked about it earlier but here is Nate’s word. Lets just pray for the young man

Really hope he’s able to rise above it and grow from it. He’s always been such a fun loving guy and really did a lot last year to help us be a 6 seed in the Tournament. This is bigger than basketball, but he seems like a good guy that you want to see do well in life.

He’s a really, really good guy. Easy to pull for. Even if he never plays again (I’m sure he will), he’s done some really good things for us and I appreciate that. Went from an unknown recruit that no one really wanted to playing for Alabama and giving us some good minutes at times. All we can do is give him space and pray for him.

JQ only played 11 minutes.

That's only half a joke.

Using ESPN's stats, here's the average minutes played per turnover for the roster that plays significant time.

Clowney 11.47
Miller 13.61
Bedianko 30.04
Sears 13.91
Bradley 10.54
Pringle 17.33
Gurley 12.59
Griffen 19.26
Burnette 11.28
Quinerly 6.60

I really admire his hustle and grit, but right now he's a pure turnover machine.

Does someone take his minutes when we are 100% healthy.

HEAD COACH NATE OATS POSTGAME COMMENTS
"Before we get going on the game I just wanted to address the Darius Miles situation, he is out with a personal matter and we are supporting him through it. We are not sure how long he will be out but we are supporting him through it and trying to help him through it so that is why he was not on the bench tonight. As far as the game goes, they are a tough team and make it difficult on you. They turn people over and we had 19 turnovers and obviously that is not good, but I thought we were able to overcome them by how hard we played. We outrebounded them and they really hang their hat on how hard they play and how well they rebound and for us to outrebound them and I thought our defense was better than theirs. We chart blue collar points, and we had 14 more collar points than them, so I thought our effort was really good. We made some tough plays and got on the floor and I was proud of our guys because we overcame some good shooting nights from their guys; KeyShawn Murphy went 3-3 in the first half and we knew he could shoot but (Will) McNair stepped out and hit a three on us so that maybe counteracted the fact that Tolu (Smith) couldn't hit a free throw, which obviously helped us. Different things went different ways, but I thought our guys stepped up; I thought Brandon (Miller) and Mark (Sears) hit big shots late when we needed them. I thought Jaden (Bradley) did a great job running the team, he ended up with seven assists, which is big for us, and I thought he was aggressive against the press. I thought our depth really helped us, we had guys in foul trouble and Charles (Bediako) gets in foul trouble early in the second half and (Nick) Pringle has to play a lot more minutes than he is used to, and I thought he did well with them so I am proud of the team. Road wins are not easy to get in this league by the evidence of the other games tonight. The are some really good teams that went on the road and couldn't win so we went on the road against a Top 25 team and able to come out with a convincing win. I think it speaks to what our guys were able to do, especially on the defensive end."

I doubt it. Sears and Bradley are already both healthy and playing better basketball. The big problem with Quinerly is that, unlike Sears, he's not a good enough shooter to play him off the ball. So if he's in the game he's ball dominant, but that inevitably leads to turnovers because he over-dribbles and attempts 10/10 difficulty passes for no apparent reason. There's just no way to get him minutes outside of garbage time where you aren't running the risk of giving up a big run off the back of poor shot selection and turnovers.

Depressing because I like JQ and my mind always goes back to that run he had late in the 2020-2021 season where he looked like one of the best PGs in the country. I keep thinking he has that in him, but with Bradley and Sears clearly playing better than him it seems more and more likely we won't see that again.

Bradley gets more comfortable with Sears/Miller every minute he's on the floor. The possession late when they had cut it to 9 and we ran the shot clock down to about 9.......Bradley drove with the intention to get Miller's defender to just slightly collapse and immediately kick to him.........leading to Miller catching an in rhythm pass to drain a 3 and end the game. That shite was beautiful.
