100%

Coleman plans are just too expensive this year, but hey, the Mal Moore needs a new entry vestibule, and we'd better upgrade the north end of BDS (again) so the team can walk straight into the locker room.

It's baffling.

If it’s about construction cost I’ve got news for them……Its not going back down

But it’s not about that.

I swear our fan base better give the administration and Byrne unrelenting shite if they build some big football project before they touch our new arena

how strange it is that someone so tall is having his shot repeatedly blocked

I was actually talking to a buddy about that this week, and our theory was that he either doesn't have enough initial "spring" in his step, or is just used to shooting over smaller guys.

Sure it will eventually be worked out, but for now it's a weird footnote on an otherwise phenomenal athlete.

Nope.

And I'm not an economist, but in my experience, today's dollars are usually a whole lot cheaper than tomorrow's — i.e., construction costs wouldn't be an issue if they'd done this 10 years ago.

I’ve pretty much accepted there isn’t going to be a new arena. At least not for the foreseeable future.

It will happen, but it'll probably be another 10 years or so with a new coaching staff and maybe a different AD. UA just isn't fully committed to any sport besides football. Never has been and never will be. We will spend money, but football is the only sport that money will be spent on without regard for ROI.

I'm not sure Nate HAS to have a new arena. He would be fine if we consistently start to fill up Coleman. It's a tough place to win when full.

Aside from cost, the bigger issue is availability of product. I work in building distribution and getting materials has been a nightmare. A container we order from China used to cost us $5-8000 in freight charges. That same container now cost $35-40000 in freight and takes over
1 1/2-2x longer to get. It's that way with most everything we order from all over the world and US, if we can get it at all.

We can at least upgrade stuff in Coleman. Like tarp off some of the seating at the very top. Reposition the students, a lot of stuff can be done

Wouldn't even be that big of a deal if they just went back to the "move on down" after the first media timeout (which is a sad necessity by itself).

I don't know why we stopped doing that.

we'd have to tarp the rows behind the benches

that would be awkward

If Nate leaves, my first choice is coach from Drake.

I agree with what you're saying, and I don't think Byrne is blameless in this situation, but I think the FOG boosters are the real issue here. Byrne (and any AD for that matter) was always going to cave to what the money wants.

The only thing I blame Byrne for is not holding the Football improvements hostage in the original Crimson Standard initiative. I said when it came out that the updated/new arena would be more than a decade away because it showed that unnecessary football improvements took precedence over the decades overdue basketball facility improvements. You put the basketball needs in phase 1, we'd already be playing in an updated facility. When they announced a new arena instead, I knew this was only to give themselves an excuse for pushing it further down the road.

Until I hear Nate actually complain about facilities, I don't think we would lose him over a new arena. He's been very good for us so far, but I don't think he's in a position to demand that much from the admin. yet.

If we're having the "Nate is leaving" discussion, I would be far more worried about how much he gushed over Izzo and MSU leading up to the tournament than a new arena, that even on schedule, would still be a few years out. MSU is the program I fear most poaching him.

With no research on him at all, I'd bet my house on some Midwestern roots here.

I'm torn on this because on the surface level of this issue, he absolutely deserves some blame. What gives me pause blaming him is he, when hired, was a well-known supporter of basketball. Either he came in and looked at the books and realized a new arena can't be done or he was told it's football 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and then give the rest to whomever.

MSU doesn't have that kind of pull. Nate is thankful to Izzo for the good old days that's it. He doesn't want Gretchen as his governor.

We need to raise funds and invest in something with serious returns. An endowment for basketball.

Is it actually hurting us in recruiting? I’ll preface this by saying in terms of fan friendliness, Coleman is the biggest godforsaken piece of shite on the planet

But as far as player friendliness, my understanding is that our facilities are competitive. Recruits don’t show up and notice the awful layout or that many seats are way too far away from the floor
