Looking at the Offensive and Defensive Ratings during the first 2 rounds

For clarity, are these the efficiency ratings just since the tournament began, or season-long?

The wording they chose there has got my brain in a "You can't put too much water in a nuclear reactor" situation.

It looks like there's a logo under us and UCLA. I wonder who it is.

We are going to eat these mother frickers up when they are on offense

Just had a bad flashback of the Gonzaga game in Birmingham. Then I remembered SDSU doesn't have TIMMEEY

They are not slight of frame either. Like Barkley said, they are "grown arse men". Even their point guard is built like a power running back.

Ahh. The age old length/girth debate.

I actually did too.

Hopefully they won't shoot 74% in the second half.

They are a much better offensive team than Mississippi State. Honestly they probably compare more to Tennessee than anyone else,

The more I watch San Diego State, the more I don’t see Tennessee as a good comparison.

I see a longer, more athletic Virginia as a better comp. They make you work and grind out possessions, but they’re not overwhelming or physical like Tennessee.

The good news is that Maryland chased us off the three point line better in the first half than anybody has this season. We adjusted, but it definitely threw us off in the first half. Sounds like we'll get the same treatment from SDSU

That is pretty much the book on us. Cover us as far out as we want to go. Be physical with the ball-handler. Look to clog up passing lanes on the perimeter and bait us to go to the rim. The plan from there is to have bigs be physical in defending the rim and force us to make shots through contact.

It is pretty effective, and teams have built early leads on us. Fortunately, gOats is a great in-game coach and makes adjustments. That and we have the depth to wear teams down.

No matter how much you don’t like it, The basketball thread seems like a good place to discuss basketball things, no? Seems like tidefans would be a better place for you.

San Diego St Scouting Report:

I have dove in and watched a few recent San Diego St games, not counting the NCAA Tournament, and came away with some thoughts about Alabama's next opponent. Let's dive in (Thread):

quote:

Before we dive into SDSU, lets see how they fared against Power 5 conferences this year:
They have faced 4 Power 5 programs (Stanford, Ohio St, Arizona, and Arkansas) all back in December. They went 2-2 and lost to Arkansas in OT at the Maui Invitational. A mixed bag.

quote:

Now, lets look at the Mountain West Conference.
The MWC had an average KenPom of 93. SDSU is known to have an elite defense, but how good is the offense in the MWC? It had an average adjO of 94. To compare those two categories, the SEC's avg KP is 67 and avg adjO is 89.

quote:

SDSU is known for an elite defense and an anemic offense. So far in the NCAAT, they have struggled on offense and had very good defense against 2 mid majors in College of Charleston and Furman. Now, both are top 75 in adjO, but neither have a lot of length or athleticism.

quote:

In conference play, they gave up an average of 63 ppg and scored 70 ppg. The MWC is a pretty solid league, but it goes to show how tough it is for SDSU to score on offense. For example, they only scored 45 points in a narrow 2 point win over a 9 win Fresno State team in February.

quote:

SDSU averages 7 made threes per game on 35% shooting and shoots roughly 45% from the field and turns it over 12 times per game. They play a deliberately slow pace with the 263rd ranked adjT in the country, while Alabama is 5th. They will try to make it a half-court game.

quote:

Matt Bradley is their best player and most confident scorer. He averages 13 ppg on 36% from 3, but only 41% from the field. He takes bad shots often, but he is always confident. Micah Parrish and Adam Seiko are threats from 3 shooting 37% and 46% respectfully.

quote:

They have 3 guys that play 25+ minutes in Matt Bradley, Darrion Trammell, and Lamont Butler in their backcourt. The rest of the team averages between 15-21 minutes. They play 9 deep and rotate the front court pretty regularly due to foul trouble.

quote:

After seeing Nevada get blown out and Boise St/Utah St lose pretty handily in the tournament, it makes you wonder just how good the MWC is. SDSU gave up 87 to Arizona and 78 to Arkansas (in OT) back in December, but that still matters. Those teams are built similar to Alabama.

quote:

It's going to be a very interesting game to watch because of styles, but I am not a believer in the MWC overall. It's going to be tough for SDSU to score on Alabama's 3rd ranked adjD, #1 two point and #3 three point defense.

quote:

Alabama may struggle early on like they did against Maryland, but eventually teams get worn down by Alabama's style and they break. It may be a race to 60 to win this game and it is nearly a guarantee every game that Alabama will score 60+.

Can be effective but if the refs call it tight, that kind of defense gets you in deep shite quickly.

Yes. Let's talk basketball. Not quotes from our football coach. And I've been in this thread for years. I'm on this board to get away from BOL/Tide fans bullshite. I could've stayed in BOL and gotten my balls licked from a dumb bumper sticker prank a decade ago.

Funny how it goes to shite when we get good and the FoG rolls in. But if it means our basketball team is elite, I guess this thread going to shite is worth it.

Now here's a nice little Bama BASKETBALL podcast from Jordan Harper...

Double Dribble Podcast

I love how he pronounces his I'd. You don't hear that accent around the Gulf Coast very often.

Sorry, I just hate people trying to sensor others on a message board. It’s not your thread. Others can discuss what they want
