Saban was out of line for that comment and if I was Nate Oats...I would let him know.

Is Nick Saban afraid of Nate Oats & the basketball team taking over in Tuscaloosa?

Probably not lol

Yeah I’m gonna need Bama to go ahead and win Friday. My dumbass was so excited late Saturday night that I found some nice prices on some seats in the corner 5 rows up and bought them for the Elite 8. Can’t get there for Friday’s game.

Gonna be majorly bummed if we lose and then also sweating out trying to sell them.

Let’s just win Friday then I’ll see y’all up there Sunday

Welp, Clay Travis came back out of hiding after those comments from Nick Saban.

Some Oats quotes from Her Coach tonight

quote:

"Didn't practice today. We gave the team yesterday off. The team practiced today. He rehabbed it. We're gonna limit him again tomorrow then see where he's at on Wednesday. The goal is to have him at 100% by Friday. It's unfortunate he can't practice." - Oats on Brandon Miller

That’s a dumbass comment by Saban, no beating around it.

Oats got pounded by national media for weeks with that comment, and you just can’t be clueless enough to say that EXACT phrase in your press conference. This now opens up the can of worms again for Oats to be ridiculed and called out by National media again.

Absolutely ill advised, unnecessary shot taken at Oats in my eyes. He’s 100000% not blind to the situation at hand and all Oats has gone through with this situation/ that specific comment.

He’s definitely more mad at Tony Mitchell than Oats obviously, but you won’t convince me that comment didn’t have a little bit of a zinger feeling towards Oats behind it.

Heres the full quote. quote:There’s no such thing as being in the wrong place at the wrong time. You’ve gotta be responsible for who you’re with, who you’re around and what you do, who you associate yourself with and the situations that you put yourself in."

I gotta be honest, even if we just put to the side for a moment whether the comment was towards Oats or not, that comment doesn’t even make sense given the context of Mitchell’s situation who was actually arrested and knew what he was doing hence why he tried to evade police officers. Wrong place wrong time doesn’t even apply here and like another poster mentioned, saying that and being so absolute isn’t ideal to say either.

It’s a bad comment all around even without the blowback towards the basketball program. We were about to have a distraction free week regarding this and now this quote happens tonight. Really aggravating.

Would be unlikely that Alabama-Creighton/Princeton gets the later game over Houston/Miami-Texas/Xavier IMO

The thing that bothers me about it, is that it was so forced. It's not even a phrase easily related to Tony Mitchell's case. I know our PR team has been total shite, but they had to have told Saban to avoid using that phrase in any way.

I appreciate Saban for what he's done for our football program, but that was dumb as hell and he had to have known that was going stir shite up. To make that comment and not punish Burton despite damning video evidence is total holier-than-thou hypocrisy.

I have to drive back to Birmingham after the game to work Monday so, selfishly, the early game would be just fine with me. All considering Friday goes as we all hope!

I finally felt like things might blow over to where we could focus on the game(s) at hand…and now this. ??

We truly have the worst PR dept. in the world.

Exactly. It was added on at the end. Saban isn’t stupid. You can’t make me believe that he just came up with those words which aren’t even relevant to Mitchell’s situation. He knew what he was doing. It was a shot at Oats. I just don’t know why.

And let's be honest, if you just swapped Brandon Miller for Bryce Young there is approximately a 0.0% chance Saban would have suspended him and a 100% chance he'd have kept playing him and shite down Joe Goodman's throat at some point during a press conference while defending him. It was both an unnecessary comment and an objectively incorrect one with a distinct air of hypocrisy.

I'm sitting back thinking about if the roles were reversed...Nate Oats wouldn't take a jab at Nick Saban period.

I really don’t think Saban was taking a jab at Oats. He probably wasn’t even thinking about the Miller situation or Oats when he said this.

Nick Saban has me looking at him in a different manner now.

I watched him dog cuss and make two grown men high school football coaches cry at a camp I took my nephew to years ago. He's a petty midget sociopath. But he is one of the greatest football coaches in any sport ever. Takes a different breed.

frick. I don’t think Miller did anything at all malicious much less criminal but I’ll be dammed if Bama doesn’t keep stepping on their own dicks in the aftermath. Now Saban is getting in on the action, intentional or not. Awesome. Just giving the Clay Travis douchebags of the world their next little 15 minutes of shock jock time.

Dude, the PR team prepped him for that statement. As little faith as I have in them, I doubt they just forgot to mention for him to avoid the use of the phrase and other mistakes we have made with the Basketball program.

Our PR team needs to make written statements that our coaches can read off when something controversial comes up. And then a list of responses to expected questions. Neither Oats nor Saban is worth two shits at that part of their job, and they don't need to be. That's why we have a PR staff.

Within context he wasn’t wrong and he wasn’t even thinking about Nate when he said it. Just unfortunate to use that phrasing.

I wish we’d quit giving the media ammunition but again in reality this is a big nothing.
