Gave up 90 tonight. Holy shite.

That’s our system. Without the correct personnel we can’t defend. Need dudes if you’re going to play man for 40 minutes a game.

Feels like we’re either elite on defense or absolutely awful. There’s no in between.

This group would be fortunate to finish 92nd in defense

What an embarrassing game…

-garbage performance
-terrible tournament…shouldn’t even be in this
-gotta play in the loser’s bracket on a stream that costs $12.50 during the Iron Bowl tomorrow

If your guards can’t keep people in front of them and you don’t have a rim protector, you give up 90 points to a middle of the pack Big 10 team.

We got to defend better point blank period.

We got time! I really wished we tried Davin Cosby though.

The reality is only one of our top 4 guards was originally recruited to play at the P5 level, and he doesn’t have starting experience. They’re going to have to learn in a hurry how to deal with more athletic guards or it’s going to be a loooooooong season.

Was at the game live and left with about a minute left. Here are my thoughts

Griffen needs less minutes right now, put walters in his spot. His body language and play offensively is just not there, barely drawing rim right now. Defensively he’s been pretty good, but he gets a little lost in the flow of the game sometimes and you dont even know he’s out there. I think he’ll be fine if he can be a little more assertive offensively to match his defensive game, but we have got to get him out of his own head and get him more involved or he’s just kinda there, nothing more nothing less.

Sears Nelson and Estrada are the big 3, but we need more from Wrightsell and Stevenson offensively outside of them to really take off (i thought wrightsell played well, love his defensive intensity) walters defense is ehh, but his offense makes up for it right now. I think both have good offensive game but missed a few open shots we coulda used, especially Stevenson. Sears missed a few in the first half but had a nice 2nd half.

Defensively, yeesh. We got lost time after time, although OSU made some
Tough shots and got bailed out on calls at key points throughout the game, but when you let a team shoot 50% from the field and 3, its game over, although OSU played a little over their heads to me, but they outplayed us at the key points tonight so props to them.

We have got to work on defensive switches off screens, you just cant get lost every screen and expect to be a good defensive team, especially when SEC play rolls around. We also gotta figure something out on the glass, as we had maybe a handful of offensive rebounds, and lost a few easy ones on the defensive glass that were big buckets in the 2nd half and end of 1st half.

Offensively, we just didn’t make shots tonight. Had a plethora of open looks, but were cold across the board. Those nights happen, but we also had some plays that we forced when we’d finally get it to 6/8 points and it then in-turn leads into a 9/11 pt lead off a 3.

I think you got to give Walters a look for some more minutes, and maybe move Nelson down some to the 5 and try and spread everyone out more until Pringle proves he can get it done defensively and pound the glass more, because he sure isnt offering a lot to keep eating up minutes right now.

First big game and we got exposed on some defensive issues big time, but if we win tomorrow and can make some changes and learn from it, one loss in november doesn’t end your season.

Ill be rooting for the boys tomorrow and hope we can leave with a dub!

No way am I paying money to watch that during the iron bowl. I’ll just keep up with the score during timeouts.

That was pretty pitiful and not what I was expecting even though we hadn’t yet played a team with a pulse. We’ve got to adjust to not having a rim protector. I don’t know what that means schematically but I don’t get paid 6 and 7 figures to figure that out.

good point

Sears and Estrada are playing important roles in the offense, but they need to improve defensively.
Even if we had the best limp protector today, we would have allowed the opponent an equally high probability of a 3-point shot.

Alabama needs Stevenson to develop into a versatile defensive forward with adequate offense. That seems to be a common thread with our good teams under Oats. The guards are usually not great defensively so the difference maker is the make up of the front court being able to mask that deficiency.

Sears is bad on defense. I think Estrada and Wrightsell will be just fine on that end. Our biggest issue was our hedging from the bigs. They murdered us on the pick and roll because our guards weren't given time to recover off of screens and their man scored or another guard was forced to dig down for help leaving their man wide open.

I hate to say it, but the hedging issue looked like a schematic choice as the bigs didn't even attempt to help high. Very weird considering we have been very aggressive hedging in the past.

We played poorly and Ohio State played lights out. But a reminder that our best team ever was beaten by 30 by a team that finished with a losing record and arguably our 2nd best team lost to Western Kentucky. One game does not make a season. We certainly have concerns, but try not to melt too hard.

Gtfoh. We were the #1 overall seed last season and you didn’t show your face. But 2 years ago and after this loss you are all up in this mother fricker.

We would start Wague probably if he could play 5 minutes without picking up a foul. He's played 52 minutes this year and has committed 11 fouls.

If Chuck was on the team, you’d be able to run teams off the 3 point line since you aren’t as worried about them scoring at the rim.

This team is going struggle defensively, but they’re giving way more effort than what we had in 2021. I’m hoping with Oats’ coaching and figuring out what lineups work that we can still be close to top 50 on D by the end of the year.
