He’s lived up to what we hoped he would be. He shot 38% from 3 last year and with some players it doesn’t translate when they transfer up but with him it for sure has, he’s shooting over 40% from three this year.

I do not agree. I don't know how focused you were on watching the second half. He wasn't a problem on defense in the second half. He only played 3 minutes but was +4. (REB 1, PF 1)

Very focused. He didn't hurt us bad or anything, but he was targeted a couple times because of the lack of strength. He had that one steal which was great, but he also had a bad turnover and foul because of his lack of physicality.

Also, plus/Minus is a horrible way to judge players in one game. The offense was much better when Stevenson was in the game, whereas we went on a scoring drought down the stretch when Mo got his minutes even though Mo was the only one of the two contributing offensively tonight with 3 ORB, 2 assists and 2 points.

You need some guys on the team with that toughness and physicality regardless of if they he scores a lot of not. He can guard multiple positions too which is huge.

Agreed. Gotta have some toughness. He is bringing it. Guys like to have that teammate on the floor.

You're talking about his record in the first half.
I judged him based on his play in the second half, not the first. Watch the replay again.

What do you want to say?
I never said anything about the first half.

He's probably getting much cleaner looks then ever before. Especially now, as our offense has improved our ball rotation. It still makes me nervous seeing quick 3s in transition (it used to be such a cardinal sin on offense). But Wrightsell shoots them as well as anyone we've had.

I can watch it as many times as I want, and I will still go with Mo who was more productive (in the same minutes) and is the clearly better defender right now.

That wasn't about the first half... This is a weird hill to die on, man. I like Stevenson's future here, but this game was simply not a good matchup for him.

I'm not sure why it feels this way, but Rylan is such a quiet scorer. One of those guys where you watch the game, and before you know it, he has 17 points. He's really settled in after a bit of a slow start to the season. Looks like he finally has a plan on drives and is more fluid on his finishes.

Yes, I can also check the time zone I want.
If I were commenting based on the entire game, I would agree with you, but I still saw positive things about Stevenson in the second half and still think he should have played more than 3 minutes. I'm not saying Stevenson should have played more in the first half.

He has ups and downs on offense, but no ups and downs on defense. my favorite player this season

Date night with the wife so I had to watch a recording. Great win. State is a good team and we didn't back down from the environment or playing football with them. They tapped out before we did though. We're getting better.

Sears has just been ridiculous. A 6 foot guard putting up 20.3 ppl on this shooting:

54.5% FG
59% on 2s
49% on 3s
83% FT

4.2 RB, 3.6 assists (2.0 turnovers), 1.5 steals

Leads the SEC in PPG, 3 point %, effective field goal % (is 3rd in True Shooting %), Free Throws made, win shares, offensive win shares, win shares per 40 minutes, Offensive box plus minus, and something called Points Produced per Game.

LINK

Strong case for first team AA and SEC poty at this point.

The shooting numbers seem almost fake - everything outside of FT% is likely to regress a bit. But he just looks completely in control this year. The way he uses his strength & handle to get to the rim is at a different level this year.

I don't feel nearly as pessimistic about @UTk as I did 24 hours ago. We won a rock fight last night against an equally physical team in an extremely hostile environment.

"Great player. As good a guard as there is in CBB. No weaknesses.. Has experience, shoots it at a high clip, is a competitor. Can talk about keeping him away from his left, but there's certain players who can get there regardless."

Alabama Backcourt Free Throws vs Mississippi State

Mark Sears: 8-8 (100%)
Rylan Griffen: 4-4 (100%)
Aaron Estrada: 2-2 (100%)
Latrell Wrightsell Jr: 2-2 (100%)

Combined: 16-16 (100%)

"Was nice we built up a 10-pt lead. We got to do a better job closing but I'll say this - Mark Sears, Trelly Wrightsell stepped up down the stretch. Can't say enough about Grant's defense. He was 1 FT, 1 REB away from a double-double."

For the third time under head coach Nate Oats, the Alabama men's basketball team improved to 3-0 in the Southeastern Conference with an 82-74 win on the road over Mississippi State Saturday night at Humphrey Coliseum. The Crimson Tide's (11-5, 3-0 SEC) defense sealed the victory as UA did not allow the Bulldogs to score for the final 2:42 of the game.

Alabama's backcourt was dominant against Mississippi State (12-4, 1-2 SEC) with Mark Sears (22 points), Latrell Wrightsell Jr. (19 points) and Rylan Griffen (17 points) combining to score 58 of UA's 82 points on the night.

The Bulldogs had three players score double-figures led by Tolu Smith III's 15 points.

Head Coach Nate Oats Postgame Comments
"This is a tough place and to get a win. Coach Jans is one of the best coaches in the country with coaching defense and toughness. This is one of the tougher teams and you saw that when they beat Tennessee here. For us to come in here and get a big win is huge. We had some guys really step up defensively I thought Latrell (Wrightsell Jr.) was one of them. I thought Grant Nelson's defense on Tolu (Smith III) was huge for us and Rylan (Griffen) is starting to come around and really guard and is playing well. Obviously, it wasn't one of our better offensive games but it is good to win on the road when you don't play great on offense all the time. We made free throws too; our four guards went 16/16 from the FT line. Between Latrell, Rylan, Mark (Sears) and Aaron (Estrada) they didn't miss a free throw. A lot of positives, we had them outrebounded for the majority of the game, we ended up losing by one but for a team that rebounds as well as they do, I thought that we did a really great job most of the game."

When Grant Nelson gets comfortable with his offense the way that Estrada and Wrightsell have, this team is gonna be hard to beat.

Griffen seems like he thrives in SEC play. His length gives smaller guards a lot of trouble on the defensive end. His shot looks improved this year too.

Most importantly, it looks like road games will be tough to win in this conference and we have already got two of them. Great start to the SEC slate. I think our guys saw how hard it is to win and that forced them to push themselves a little more. If they keep pushing we can make another run at the conference title.
