Most of you are loyal Bama bball fans and I like you, but some of you are way off regarding this team. If you’re right I will admit it but I view the fight showed by this team the last two games as a huge positive. I think we look like the 2nd best team in the SEC behind Kentucky. No shame losing to Purdue in Edey’s hometown or to Creighton at their place by 3. To think either means we aren't good is laughable.

quote:Agree, which is why it’s easy to support this group. The problem is you can’t effort your way into making a 6’10” center a rim protector, which means absent elite defensive play at the guard spot every decent opponent will get whatever they want against us on offense.
Unlike 2 years ago the defense problems isn’t effort based. This group fights and plays hard.

If we can get Wague to stop fouling and play him 20-25 mins a game I think we will end up being a MUCH MUCH better team
I think Stevenson will grow faster than Wague will solve his foul problem.
Solving a foul problem may seem easy, but it is surprisingly a very difficult problem.

Meh, hitting a few more threes today and we win. Don't overthink it, we do not seem to get calls this year, so in close games, if we are missing three we need to work it for a lay up, if one teams getting fouls late, they have to give you the same calls. You have to know when to not shoot threes, in close games late why jack up a bunch of 33 percent shots when going to the basket will get you free throws. You have to adapt to refs calls, and to your 3 point shooting, if its off you can't just jack them up. With this schedule, if we go .500 in league play we will get in, if not we may nit deserve to get in. But I would rather play great teams in the pre season, it always makes the team better in te long run.
We still gotta love Oates style. He has made watching Bama basketball fun again.

I certainly understand the frustration from fans, but I will say that no one thinking logically instead of emotionally should have a worse outlook on this team now than they had before the last 2 games. My outlook has improved greatly despite the now "ugly" 6-4 record. You can look at the Purdue game and maybe say it was just fluke level shooting, but today we shot horribly, had both bigs foul out, had a 16 FTA disadvantage, and we still managed to be a buzzer-beater miss away from OT.

I agree. I feel way better about our team after hanging with Purdue and Creighton in hostile environments than I did after losing to Ohio State and Clemson on neutral courts. I think we are improving rapidly, and two of our best players aren’t 100% right now.

I think I need to reduce the ISO a bit. I think we need to set more screens and pass the ball more.

I think we have a good a good shot vs Arizona on Wednesday.
I would feel better about it if it wasn’t in Arizona of course.
I thought we played Purdue better than they did.

Just like Purdue, I don’t feel bad about the effort tonight.
I am worried though that we’ll have bad record heading into conference play without any notable wins. Just a lot of good losses.

Look at Arkansas the past couple of years, they didn't really do that good out of conference. Weren't even that great in conference. What matters is how youre playing March, our ceiling is very high.
Purdue and Creighton were really good last year and both returned almost everyone. We have a whole new team basically and hung with both in hostile environments.
Are those moral victories? Yes. Do these moral victories need to turn into actual victories at some point? Yes, and I think they will.

So, we jumped up 3 spots on Torvik after losing. They have us at #5.

Wague played 7 mins and fouled out. That’s Giddens-esque.
We are fortunate Kalkbrenner got hurt for the 1st half and we started eating them up with the lobs to Pringle

The sky isn’t falling and this team isn’t missing the NCAA tournament. Will probably end up somewhere between a 5-9 seed. The SEC isn’t that good this year. Right now, I’d still say we finish 3rd in the league, behind UK and Tenn. Rest of the league is a lot of meh. Really wish we could add a quality non conference win to the resume because there won’t be a ton of quality wins to be had in conference.
That being said, it’s also ok to admit this team has been somewhat disappointing. Estrada and Nelson have been very underwhelming. Nelson isn’t an NBA player right now, let alone a first round draft pick. And we are bad defensively. Awful. We’ve played 5 P5 teams and four of them have shot 50% or better from the field. We’ve yet to hold a P5 to below 85 points. This isn’t a great team, but if a 5-9 seed in the tourney is our floor under Oats, I think you take that all day.

a 3 point basket here or there and Pringle making 2 more FT's and we could have won this game by 2. Got to figure out what has Nelson in a funk though.

Probably more for the recruiting board but..Be interesting to see how things shake out rest of this season heading into to next. Sherrell, Reid, and Cunningham..the front court will be stacked with talent next year. Nelson and Stevenson probably thought they would get drafted after this year. Maybe Stevenson still based on potential but he really needs another year. Could you talk either into possibly coming back next year..or would they with what we have coming in for the front court. Nelson didn’t want to come back to college this year and some team probably takes a flyer on him in the 2nd round.
We are still going to be kicking cans in the portal looking guards next year though. And these transfer portal mid major guys are usually mid major for a reason as we’ve seen this year.
Then we have three freshmen-Cosby, Parker, and Dioubate, who we don’t trust enough to see the floor. Wouldn’t surprise me if all three are in the portal after the season.

Creighton is a mid major and they can play with anyone. A mid major does a good job of developing a 3 star by the team he is a senior.
I stand corrected as Creighton is in the Big East. Wow how things have changed. How long have they been in a power conference?
