But Joka the drop coverage doesn’t work when you don’t have a 7ft rim protector.

The No. 23/20 Alabama men's basketball team
I don't mean you Alabama_Fan because you just posted a media preview, and thanks, but why does the media keep using AP/ Coaches polls for basketball when neither the NCAA tournament committee nor anybody else plays a lick of attention to those polls? Kenpom, Torvik, Sagarin, and especially NET are the measures that count in basketball. There have not been enough games yet for those measures to be entirely valid, but they are way better than media guys picking their favorite teams. Football could use NET rankings also to balance out the Big 10 bias.

Tonights a big test, I’ve actually heard more national guys pick Clemson to win that Alabama. Good chance to come out and make a statement in a game a lot of people will be watching.
Clemson is gonna try to slow the game down as much as possible.

Many pages ago in this thread, we were talking about the basketball talent in little rock. Cant verify the accuracy

per capita the little rock metro area produces as much rivals 150 talent as any other place in the country. It's insane.
between 2018 / 2019 the area alone will end up accounting for like 2% of the entire rivals 100 in both years. Not a state. a city with a metro area of 500k.

vs Top 150 teams (ISU, OSU, Oregon)
eFG% D - 60.2% (#298)
3P% D - 42.2% (#309)
2P% D - 58.3% (#257)
Free Throw Rate D - 41.3 (#237)
So, yea, that will need to be improved.

I agree with the last part, but even Bediako was out there hedging ball-handlers to allow our guards some time to recover last year. Heck, I'd argue one of Pringle's strong suits last year was his ability to hedge and drop. This year our bigs are camping out at the FT line and not even stunting at the ball-handler.
Seems like a purposeful change by the staff to me. It may be that they are terrified of our inability to prevent the blow-bys, and so we're countering by ensuring our rim protector is in position. But it's not at the rim where they've been obliterating our defense.

Ive heard so many people in here constantly complaining about the defense but wheres the praise for the offense thats number 1 in the country by a large margin?
Reading this thread youd think we were terrible, we’re ranked in the top 10 on kenpom almost a month into the season, our defense will get better, we have what 8 new players playing together? The skys not falling.

Because unbalanced fiddler crab type teams have historically done very little of note in the postseason. You don't have to be elite on defense if you are on offense or vice versa, but if you're elite on one end and a complete disaster on the other it almost never ends well. It's still way too early to panic (the 20-21 team was hot garbage at times in OOC play and eventually figured it out) but the warning signs are there.

I will say something that I already said before on here. I think this team will be really good at HOME!
They will figure it out on defense...it takes time with new faces.
Its most definitely going to be a good matchup tonight against Clemson so we got to bring it.

Lol there isn't one person freaking out about it (at least since the last game ended). And I've gone out of my way to mention that I don't think it's unfixable and how Nate seems to be all over it. It's simply a talking point.
Areas of improvement will always be discussed more than talking about how awesome the strengths are. That's just sports talk in general from the fans to the players and coaches. And I guarantee you Oats is more focused on how bad the defense has been versus how awesome the offense is.

We have 8 new players im not sure why people expected the defense to be elite out of the gate, we worked on offense most of the offseason. The defense will get better the more the new guys play together, most of our problems so far are communication related.

Most of us worried that defense might be an issue for this team, and it definitely is, so far. Nobody expected them to be elite. We also hoped they wouldn't be outright bad. It's still early, but they have a lot of improving to do. And why would you think we practiced offense in the off-season and not defense? LOL.
