I recall in the Tennessee game he was pretty terrible in the first half. I think the defense got a strip sack to win the game.

BAMA points vs the barn. We all know how we got the 7 in the 4th.

1st Qtr - 7
2nd Qtr - 10
3rd Qtr - 3
4th Qtr - 7

Not exactly lighting it up. 6/16 on 3rd down. Had to convert two times on 4th down.

We had almost 5 1/2 more in TOP and 114 more yds.

We were +3 in turnovers and still barely won the game against a crap barn team.

It wasn’t to win but it put it away.

And how many boneheaded plays that almost lost us the game?

Thats the problem with Jalen. He doesnt do the easy stuff well. His success is usually dependent on making an incredible play. But just keeping the offense on schedule and perfectly executing simple playcalls is so difficult for him. Footwork, just bad. Not to mention having a lot of trouble reading a defense even pre snap.

If you cant do that stuff, you have very little chance of doing the high level QB stuff. Has JM ever read a blitz and made the defense pay for it? Im asking about arms or legs? Does anyone have a stat for how long he usually holds onto the ball?

But he is big, fast, and strong AF.

... his internal clock needs to improve. Milroe’s 32.4% pressure-to-sack conversion rate was the sixth-highest in the nation as he held onto the ball for an FBS-leading 3.45-second average. He also needs to improve his consistency in the short and intermediate game, as his 68.0 passing grade on throws 0-19 yards stood just 100th in the country.

One thing I think our staff might be able to help with is play design and simplifying reads. Hes never going to be Tua where he gets to his 4th read in less than 2 seconds.

So you have to scheme up 2 read plays where the other receivers are eye candy for the defense. I do think Rees did a bit of that later in the year from time to time, but since it really wasn’t how we ideally wanted to run our old system I think some of it was repetitive and showed up on film.

Seemed to get it out pretty quick on A day. Could be a sign of growth.

In the infamous words of someone. "Run The Damn Ball." Very little scheming needed.

Well, you have to complete them too.

In stride and timely would be nice.

Lmao is this a joke? Did you watch the Arkansas, Tenn, LSU or Auburn games? He was far from stellar against LSU through the air and they were so bad in the secondary last year. A lot of our fans are disillusioned by 4th and 31. I’m saying this as someone who wants to see Milroe succeed too, but cmon,

Would you say Milroe is behind, equal to ahead of Hurts from a passing development standpoint at this point in his career?

I’d argue he’s well ahead of him based on all the objective data available and Hurts doesn’t have anything close to his athleticism.

If Hurts can be an NFL MVP candidate in the modern NFL, Jalen Milroe can absolutely get there with proper development.

Doesn’t mean he will.

Doesn’t mean Ty Simpson might not deserve to start over him this year to give Bama the best opportunity to win.

But Jalen Milroe has a much higher ceiling than Hurts did and he already is the exact thing you scoffed at suggesting Milroe could become.

That's fricking terrible. That is what bad offenses do. What a waste.

How do we keep ending up with starting QB's that are projects?

Do you expect a first round QB every cycle?

That’s not always true. Believe it or not multiple NFL teams run limited read offenses. The 49ers have definitely done it(especially when they had Jimmy G). You have to be able to accentuate the pieces you have around you and limit their deficiencies. Kyle Shannahan will do a lot more when he has a Matt Ryan level qb but he will break it down to getting the ball to the Jimmy and Joes a lot too.

Milroe and Ty both have pros and cons. I also don’t think Ty is some read the whole defense savant either.

I expect a QB to be able to read defenses and complete basic passes.

Is that too much to expect?
