Depends on when in the first. If he's taken middle to late first by a decent team that can stick him on the bench for a year or two behind a vet it probably isn't going to get anyone fired. If he goes early to a dumpster fire like the Giants, Browns, or Jets it's going to be a beautiful disaster.

The difficult thing about the NFL is financial ramifications in roster building makes it difficult to sit on a quarterback for several years. At most he's getting a year but the reality is that he'll probably be on the field by midseason at worst like Maye and Penix. The best time to build a contender is before you have to pay your quarterback veteran contract money and it is hard to win with a 1st round draft pick not contributing besides. GMs and coaches could be canned before their stowed-away QB matures. It is a right-now league.

The prevailing way to treat starter-grade QB prospects now is either to start them game 1 or take a month or two of weekly game prep to let them see how its done then throw them on the field. I think all the teams that started their first round QBs at some point this past season benefited from it even if the team and/or QB was not successful. They know where they stand with their QB. Some made coaching changes to help their QB asset, others know they're missing some pieces and can probably make the playoffs or contend with them.

If Milroe hasn't learned how to play the QB position by this point, the NFL is not the place where he's going to do it. They are going to want him to produce as a passer and he just can't. This isn't Jalen Hurts situation where he'd already markedly improved as a passer exiting Tuscaloosa for Oklahoma then put a year of tape up demonstrating it in Norman. Jalen Milroe has never demonstrated a professional aptitude for passing the football.

He's big, fast, and has a strong arm. That combination of traits is going to get NFL teams interested no matter what because that's just the currently preferred QB archetype.

Yeah, everyone is looking for the next Josh Allen, who was incredibly raw his first couple of years in the league and was mostly a runner. He's developed into a great QB, but guys like him are kind of unicorns. For every Josh Allen there's 5 Daniel Jones, which is who I think Milroe's ceiling will resemble in the NFL.

For QBs you either need a guy that's cheap or one of the best ever. In the last 15 years the champ was either led by Mahomes, Brady, Manning, Stafford, or Manning, or a guy on his rookie/cheap deal like Wilson, Flacco, or Foles.

You either are paying a lot for a Hall of Famer or you're using that money for players around your QB b/c your QB doesn't cost you much.

It would mean Hurts winning this year would be sort of unusual because I don't know if he's a Hall of Fame guy down the road.

Here's the thing. At the NFL level in particular, the MENTAL part of the game is the most critical for QBs. Not only being able to grasp everything and process, but having the CONFIDENCE to carry out the plays necessary to move the chains and score TDs. We've seen little of that from NILroe with regard to the passing game. And he hesitates to run and doesn't utilize his full set of skills when he does. Everything about his "mental" part of playing the position screams "Project"!

Is there a miracle-worker coaching staff who can bring out the best of whatever he has?

Anthony Richardson has 10X the physical tools of Brock Purdy. But would you take him over Purdy if given the choice?

I guess the difference with the Eagles is they have a lot of cheap players on defense and offensive line plus they got Saquon on a value tbh.

Frankly, Barkley is a HoF caliber tailback in an era with very few (Henry only active future HoF RB right now). So maybe that is the difference that explains the exception to the rule. The Eagles are a more talented than the Chiefs overall but perhaps not where it counts. Mahomes > Hurts. Jones > Carter.

And the videos you did post, I wouldn't call that getting "into rhythm."

3 clips, about 15 seconds in total length and it shows one actual completion. That completion was a 12 yard crossing route on air...

So strange to call out a program on the "decline". I don't remember there ever being a recruit making a statement like "I came here to dominate LSU/AU/TN" It's always Bama. It will ALWAYS be Bama. We are in everyone's heads whether they think we are on the decline or not.

Our 9-4 perch looks mighty high for where FSU landed in 2024

It’s always the opposing team players who talk shite about Alabama. You see it every year when we play Auburn. Now we see it from a random Florida State player. Alabama players at least know how to act around the media.

From some dude on BOL:

quote:

Ran into a couple WR this weekend and chatted with them a bit. I asked them about the QBs and asked them for their perspective on Ty / Mack / Keelon. They all had really positive things to say about all 3. 1 of the WR flat out said we are going to be much better at QB this year which surprised me and they all went out of their way to say that Ty was on a different level than the other 2 QBs and almost acting like the QB competition isn’t going to be as dramatic as maybe we think.

Not saying who but they live in my neighborhood. I didn’t ask too many questions but what I gather is the university has bought a couple houses in a high end neighborhood in tuscaloosa that several of the higher end players live in together.
