I don't mind hearing more from the assistants, but I do wish he'd go back to not allowing freshmen to talk to the media. Some of them can be pretty smart about it, but you're just asking for some dumbass like Demarcus Riddick to run his mouth because he's too stupid to intuitively know better.

I think it is good for the fans as well as the players . Gives them practice/experience dealing with media and future employers too. They receive guidance/training in this area and you really never hear ex Bama players saying stupid stuff to the media

Isn't this a byproduct of NIL?

I don't think coaches can keep the media away from players anymore.

Yes, gonna be hard to restrict that when you’ve got guys getting appearance fees on talk shows & podcasts. I mean you could, but it’s going to be a mark against you.

Saban’s ways would not work as well for him today as they did in 2015. And they definitely won’t work for someone without the Saban name and pedigree.

That's because Saban was a master at that sort of thing and our media training was second to none. And I always felt like a big part of that was essentially having the freshmen watch from the bench and learn how it's done. Not all of them needed it, but those guys still got 2 years to work on all that stuff and portray themselves as marketable for NFL franchises. I think the guys who aren't as media savvy do need to watch and learn the art of how to talk without saying anything though.

Really hate the “everyone is available to the media” thing that DeBoer implemented

The interview you replied to is from the Under Armour All-American game press conference.

DeBoer has no control over that.

Yes, I am sure our training still is. Even one of our players alluded to that when the AU player ran his mouth this year. Even if it wasn’t at press conferences at school, when guys have a big game and they make great plays , the media is wanting to talk to them, might as well let em get experience . Keep them too much under wraps and they will be at XYZ university next year anyways . Players today are more mature and used to big time football for the most part . They can handle it

Campbell laid it all on the line against Michigan. Great player for us. Will always remember his big play against Tennessee last year.
