Happy with the mid week win. Nice crowd - ‘cozy’ stadium. I’d guess 50/50 split Bama-Samford fans. Several players got playing time late in the game. Hodo with a solo shot home run (Dom got one too). Hayslip got an at bat and played left field. Portera came in for Dom one inning then moved to 2nd base. Crawford caught the last inning. Foggo got an at bat and played 1st base in the 9th - had a nice snag and got the last out. Hess had his longest outing on the mound so far.
13 left on base. Jarvis (0-5), Denton (1-5) and Williamson & Seidl (both 1-4) had rough nights at the plate.
On to USCe where 3 wins would be oh so nice!

(note: the write up gives Dio the credit for a home run, but it was Hodo pinch hitting for Dio who actually got it.)
Steady Offense Powers Baseball to 9-3 Win at Samford
The Tide scored a run in five of the nine innings to ensure the midweek win
Alabama baseball scored in five of the nine innings on the way to a 9-3 win over Samford on Tuesday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field. The win moves the Crimson Tide to 25-17 on the season.
Alabama jumped out front early, plating two runs apiece in the second and third frames to gain a 4-0 advantage after three full. Samford got on the board with one in the fourth, but the Tide answered with a run of their own in the sixth followed by a three-run seventh. Alabama added one more in the eighth with Samford plating a single tally in the eighth and ninth for the 9-3 final.
Eight of the nine Alabama starters recorded at least one hit on the evening, highlighted by a 4-for-4 effort from Owen Diodati. The junior homered and walked while adding one RBI and a team-high three runs scored. Caden Rose also finished a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI, one run and a team-high three walks. Andrew Pinckney, Dominic Tamez and Bryce Eblin all matched Rose with a two-hit effort, with Pinckney and Tamez tying for the team-high total for RBI with two apiece.
Ben Hess (2-1) picked up the win on Tuesday. The freshman tossed a career-high 6.0 innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
From Head Coach Brad Bohannon
"It was good to see some hard contact up and down the lineup tonight. We also had a lot of baserunners, which was great to see. It took us a little while to bust it open, but I was really happy to see us be able to do it. We had good production from everyone in the lineup, so it was a great all-around effort by our offense. Now we have to have a good day of practice tomorrow and get ready for a tough series with South Carolina starting Thursday."

NCAA Transformation leaders revealed radical changes to college sports this week, sources tell @SINow.
The (unofficial) concepts eliminate scholarship caps in equivalency sports & abolish limits on number of coaches, sending such decisions to conferences

Looks like there are some huge changes on the horizon.

The expansion of scholarships would be a historic move, but it would not impact sports such as football and basketball, known as “head count” sports. They offer full scholarships to a roster of players: 85 in football and 15 in basketball. The concept pertains to sports offering partial scholarships, known as “equivalency” sports, such as baseball, hockey, track and field, and swimming. For example, the NCAA maximum scholarships allowed in baseball is 11.7 for a roster of 35—a figure often criticized by high-level baseball-playing schools from rich conferences that want to spend more. Under the transformation’s plan, a school could conceivably offer 35 full scholarships in the sport.

Huge weekend this weekend. Feels like one where we really, really need to win 2/3.

That is pretty massive. After reading the article, the plans were supposed to be submitted by August but looks like it's extending into the Fall. I wonder how long it would take to implement a rule change like that one.

Emmert doesn't step down until June 2023, so maybe not until then at least? Not really sure.

Kiley McDaniel's 2022 MLB draft rankings 2.0
Two months after releasing my first 2022 MLB draft rankings, it's time for an update. Now that both college and high school teams are well into their season, scouts and analysts have more to go off of, so I have expanded from my initial top 50 to a ranking of the top 150 prospects.
quote:
19. Connor Prielipp (21.4), LHP, Alabama
Prielipp is a top-10 pick talent who had Tommy John surgery last season, but he's already throwing on a mound and sitting around 90 mph at 11 months after surgery. I've seen a bit of video from these bullpens, and his delivery and timing look good.
At his best, Prielipp worked at 94-97 mph and had a 3000 rpm hammer curve that graded as high as a 70-grade pitch. He may be able to throw a full-tilt bullpen for scouts before the draft.
quote:
47. Walter Ford (17.5), RHP, Pace HS (FL), Alabama commit
Reclassified from 2023, Ford is one of the youngest in the class. He will show mid-90s and plus breaker with strong demeanor but has had an up-and-down spring command-wise.

Brock Blatter (19.0), RHP, Billings Central Catholic HS (MT), Alabama commit

I have little doubt (based on the Uneven documentary) that Byrne would be all over this. Relief for the players (in baseball, softball, swimming) AND a hitting coach in baseball and softball. Be still my heart.
