If you want to see a model of what Byrne is thinking, look at the women's basketball program. Kristie Curry built a program from absolute shite to finally making the Dance last year. It was a long time coming; took her 8 years I think, to get a bid. Exited in the 2nd round. This year took a pretty big step back, and went to the WNIT again. But she still has a job and some wanted her gone. She's had more than ample time to build a program, even from the depths that Bama came from, but it is stuck at slightly above average.

Bohannon didn't have to come from quite the same shithole Curry did, but it was close. And Bo has shown consistent progress until this year. The talent is certainly better. Development is definitely questionable. But I don't think Byrne will pull the trigger after this season, regardless of outcome. I think changes need to be made internally if nothing else. Major changes. But I feel pretty confident that based on Byrne's track record, Bo gets at least another year. But I think it will be made clear that expectations are not being met.

I'm not a Bo defender; I thought he had done pretty well until this season. He hasn't handled this team very well at all and it's showing up in the record. There's definitely some things that could be blamed on coaching. But maybe some of it is bad team chemistry too, I dunno. Maybe not. I'm rather ambivalent about whether Bo gets another year or not, but it's time to produce. Next year needs to be a special one if he plans on hanging around, that is, if he gets that opportunity. If not, thanks for trying and for what you did and next man up. I'm just ready for Bama baseball to be relevant again.

Some of the radical proposals for changing the NCAA game would go a LONG way towards fixing the problems with college baseball and just about every other damn sport outside the big ones. It's about time somebody woke up. My fear is they make too much sense and cost too much for Podunk A&T to implement so it will get shot down. Fingers crossed they pass.

Alabama Pitcher Grayson Hitt Shows Growth in Sophomore Season (SI)

Heading into his freshman year, Hitt's primary goal was to be the Crimson Tide's Sunday starter. Now, as a sophomore, that goal has been realized.

Honestly can't believe we are even that close. It would take a monumental turnaround for us to make a regional in my opinion. I just don't see it happening with this group. I feel like they've already given up on this season

Theoretically everything is still in front of us. We have 9 games left against #3, #18 and #19 and 6 of them are at home. Of course, our record against Top 25 level teams the last 5 years is roughly 4-136, so I'm not sure how even the most optimistic person in the world could expect us to do any better than 4-5 or 3-6. And those records are not getting us into the NCAA Tournament (13-17 or 12-18).

We have to go 6-4 or better over the last 10 (Jax St + 3 SEC series) to make the NCAA Tournament, IMHO. I have zero faith in that nor am I even really considering it as a possibility at all. But, theoretically, I think that is the mark. 31-24 (14-16) going into Hoover PROBABLY gets us in (though not definitely). Anything more and we are definitely in. Anything less and we probably have to win at least 3 games in Hoover, and even then it just depends if the committee cares about the conference tournament at all or not.

Outside of the weekend COVID shut down the season, last weekend was the worst weekend of Bo's 5 year tenure. Not sure there is even really a close second, to be honest. It was an absolute disaster of unbelievably epic proportions.

And anything other than a sweep would have been ok. You just can't get swept, and you definitely can't get swept by a team in the bottom 4 of the league.

It could get ugly against lsu. They can hit, and the defense has improved.

Yes. Need to go 5-4 in SEC games and win one in Hoover IMO.

Impossible? No. Likely….. well…. get back with me in 3 weeks.

Remember when Goff took his 2 SEC win team to auburn and swept them?

Lots of hand wringing and teeth gnashing to be done over what could have been this season. All those one run losses. Games that slipped away at the end. All the f-ing mid week losses. There will be a long off season to reflect on all that. For now the team needs to move forward, albeit down a much more difficult path than it had to be. Hoover isn’t even a guarantee at this point.

Step 1: win the next one

For those who plan ahead:

Alabama-Arkansas Friday Baseball Game Moved to 7 p.m. CT on SEC Network

The Alabama-Arkansas baseball game scheduled for Friday, May 20, has been moved to a 7 p.m. CT first pitch on SEC Network.

Game two of the series was originally set for a 6 p.m. start on SEC Network+. The game was moved into a national television slot as part of the league's 'Wildcard Weekend'.

The teams will still stick with a 6 p.m. CT first pitch in Thursday's matchup with the series finale still slated for 1 p.m. Games one and three will air live on SEC Network+.

Numbers in conference play

quote:

FRI: Garrett McMillan (Jr., RHP) (4.57 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, .253 BAA, 41.1 IP)

SAT: Jacob McNairy (Sr., RHP) (5.94 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, .311 BAA, 33.1 IP)

SUN: Grayson Hitt (So., LHP) (5.73 ERA, 1.45 WHIP, .266 BAA, 33.0 IP)

Our next 4 highest IP guys in conference play

- Dylan Ray (5.52 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, .232 BAA, 14.2 IP)
- Jake Leger (5.02 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, .293 BAA, 14.1 IP)
- Brock Guffey (7.36 ERA, 1.82 WHIP, .283 BAA, 11.0 IP)
- Hunter Furtado (10.64 ERA, 2.45 WHIP, .392 BAA, 11.0 IP)

Our ERA in SEC play is 5.63. Our WHIP is 1.51. Our batting avg against is .276.

Just can't expect to win with that. Absolutely horrid.

The only guy in SEC play who has been competitive on the mound is Hoopes (3.68 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, .167 BAA).

And, of course, he's out of commission for..........some reason.

Those numbers are sickening. Bo is seen as a great recruiter and he has had decent classes under his helm but they just aren't producing. If he is already a terrible in-game coach than what does he bring to the plate? It was supposed to be recruiting, but it doesn't matter if they are either ranked wrong coming out of high school or if you can't develop them.

Some pitching numbers that tell the tale

vs LHH : 56/293 (.191 avg) (#3 of 14)

vs RHH : 146/439 (.333 avg) (#14 of 14)

w/ runners on base : 95/317 (.300 avg) (#13 of 14)

w/ 2 outs : 78/245 (.318 avg) (#14 of 14)

So we are the worst in the league against right handed hitters, with runners on base and with 2 outs.

Welp.
