We have a big who is softer than Charmin. So yes

I think Sherrill gives everything he has but yes, soft for sure. It's maddening but he's getting better for certain.
The NBA talk for him? Come on, that can't be real. Right? I mean, not yet.
Only a little over six hours away now

Williamson would be almost serviceable if he would look for his shot inside of 10 feet. Ive never seen anyone that size with an aversion to going up with the ball that close to the bucket.
Hes playing somewhat better defense, he hustles have to credit him there, and he rebounds a little.

Don't blame Noah. He does his best.
Guards shouldn't throw him the ball ever down low.
I wonder what FanDuel has on Noah:
pts over/under: 1.5
rebounds: 1.5
fouls: 3

His turnovers are back breakers, though. Some due to not shooting quickly when he’s got the ball in the paint as you mentioned.
Posted on 3/22/26 at 2:26 pm to BamaBravesPackers
That's the thing. He just won't take it right back up. He'd probably draw some fouls and he can shoot free throws...sort of LOL.
But that would enable us to play him longer.

Watching MoD play so hard and be this good at rebounding despite his smaller size is hard to watch. It didn’t make sense to pay what he wanted, but we really could have used his defense and rebounding this year.

The NIL was a non starter. What we really could've used was a healthy TBB and Bristow.

I think basketball metrics particularly defensive individual metrics are directional at best.
Like how do you know whose fault it was when someone gets beat because they had help responsibility and didn’t get there in time off a pick? Data isn’t going to show that effectively.
Tracking metrics do capture this but they aren’t publicly available for college.

TBB was starting to get back onto the court late in the regular season. I wonder if he's finally got his rhythm back? He looked good in this last game. Active on defense, had a couple threes early and one to really polish the game off late with his personal 7-0 run after getting flagrant fouled.
I don't think he's ever going to get a double-double but we just need him to be active on defense and engaged with the offense so he can be the beneficiary of the attention Philon demands.

Dioubate should have stayed and he would have been a great fit for us to have a guy that doesn't need the ball in his hands to make a difference. UK of course decided to overpay anyone that would listen, but I digress...
This is going to rub people the wrong way, but TBB just has huge gaps in where you can play him. He can't play the 4 without getting absolutely abused and bullied. He can't really play the 3 because he is zero threat to drive, has decent but pretty average handles and isn't a knockdown shooter. He's an ok shooter on WIDE open looks, but if you give him volume those numbers will probably go down. What Alabama needs from him is more rim runs on offense and just crash the glass relentlessly on both the O and D boards. Instead he's just a 6'10 guy who camps out on the perimeter and is doing our opponents a favor.

Just reading the article on ESPN where Jim Boeheim mentioned how poor Syracuse was in compensation for NIL. He is quoted as saying they are bottom 3 in the conference in paying players (with G Tech & BC) with an estimated 8 million in NIL money paid for basketball. Im familiar with the ridiculous numbers UK paid out, but I wouldn't think 8 million is that paltry, but apparently it is. We may be spending a little more on basketball, but I can't imagine we are spending much more.
I mention all of this because my assumption is we paid Bethea, TBB and Bristow a fairly healthy wage. The Bristow situation will probably take care of itself according to the rumor mill. But based on what we have seen and what the potential is, don't we have to give TBB and Bethea their walking papers at years end and put that money into better transfers. I admit, I was high on Bethea and I still feel like he should play a hell of lot more than he does just based on his length and athleticism alone, but obviously he is not a great fit for Oats.

Have no idea about NIL budget but I think Bethea is pretty much a perfect fit for Oats. Kind of take Oats's word for it about all the missed practices.
Missing all the early practice time was worse for him than most players since he has All-Sec skills but seems to not get team basketball concepts.
Impossible to guess what will happen in the offseason but I'd surprised if Oats doesn't want him back.
I'd imagine he wants Bol Bowen back as well.
If they leave, I imagine it's because they think they can feature more elsewhere.
Reading between the lines of Oats comments, I'd say his NIL strategy is to spread it out among a solid 10 deep and not go too steep for a few. Not sure Bethea or Bol Bowen necessarily prohibit that for next season.

I’d give a lot to take Williamson’s, Bristow’s, and TBB’s to get Lendeborg who was literally playing in the state of AL last year. We’d be a 2 seed with a legit NC shot and Mich would probably be a 3 seed with minimal chance. There are examples of large $ rosters flopping, but Mich and AZ are both high $ rosters.

I just think that's bad business in today's world of basketball. I have watched Bethea rot away on the bench in games where we had 15/20 point leads and had 3-4 guys out with injuries. I love Oats, but he isn't being 100 percent honest about something there. When you are paying high 6 figures or possibly more for a guy, he has to produce and the harsh truth is he and Bol Bowen have not and from what I have seen we don't have time for guys to get better from injuries or figure out how to play basketball.
