It’s not that farfetched. I need to go back and listen, but Joel Klatt proposed something similar last week on the The Next Round as a way to expand/clean up the playoffs. The same weekend as the conference championship game, the 3rd and 4th best teams also would play each other.

Need to go back and listen to details, bit I remember thinking it was a great idea when he spelled it out.

It’s a problem in every mega conference. What if Indiana had Purdue’s conference schedule?

Nebraska
@Wisconsin
@Illinois
Oregon
Northwestern
@Ohio State
Penn State
@MSU

Purdue is a bottom feeder. Of course their schedule is tough. They're the team that everyone gets to play for a guaranteed W.
OU isn't that. They got fricked by Sankey as part of the same negotiations that got Tejas their cake schedule.
Tejas got treated like royalty for coming to the SEC. OU got treated like... well... Purdue.

OU is the more storied program. Until THIS season OU had more wins, same amount of bowl wins, and still more natties, more playoff appearances.

I am talking about decisions related to future season schedules, not this year’s schedule. Seemed pretty obvious, on like a 4th grade reading comprehension level, just an honest observation.

“Just an honest take…” Who puts that in a post? Should we just assume from here on out that you are lying if you don’t clarify that you aren’t?

I summed it up in another post so here's what he said:
Joel Klatt discussed this on The Next Round recently and implied his sources are telling him (I'm putting some words in his mouth to fill in the gaps) basically only the B1G and SEC will have championship games. They will have 1 v 2 with the winner getting the bye and the loser getting a first round home playoff game. Thee ACC and Big 12 will have their 1 host 4 and 2 host 3 in a play in game the same weekend with the winners of those games getting a playoff spot. The B1G and SEC will also have two play in games for their final two playoff automatic bids. The losers of any conference play in games will be eligible for one of the two at large spots along with any highly ranked Group 5 school (and ND assuming they stay independent).

If that format existed this year you would have had this yesterday:

1 Texas vs 2 Georgia in Atlanta winner gets a bye loser gets a guaranteed home game.

6 South Carolina at 3 Tennessee
5 Ole Miss at 4 Alabama
Winner gets an AQ spot losers of both games eligible for an at large bid.

Thanks for typing that up and explaining.

I like that idea a lot for eliminating a lot of the human factor in determining most of the playoff spots. Just seems a lot more fair and balanced way of doing the playoff with the variety of conferences that we have.

Missouri instead of UT would probably make more sense there. No way UT would want to risk their guaranteed spot, but MIZZOU was 9-3 like those others.

I was talking about this year... get out of your feels, player. No amount of scheduling is going to fix the glaring coaching deficiencies we are now facing. Just another honest take...
