Why don’t you try stating that Saban’s washed up too? Eventually you’ll be right in that one also. Oh, what a savant you’ll be on that day.

So is the 4th Quarter program a thing of the past, now?

I’m extremely interested to see how our players look moving forward under the new S&C hires, and if there is a correlation between that and the injuries we’ve piled up.

I’m very excited about the hires and how the team looks this coming fall. Also seems like it might have been a good move for recruiting on top of S &C considering where Ballou came from before Indiana...South Florida for like 14 years at those hotbed high schools. Or am I just reading too much into it? Honest question/speculation.

I can't see how many high school prospects will even know who he is, given their ages when he was there and the fact he coached at 2 total high schools. Perhaps a few parents of bigtime prospects could remember him fondly, but that wold be a drop in the bucket regarding available prospects. And he won't be on the road recruiting or even set foot in that area given his job description as S&C Coordinator, and so I can't see how his hiring will affect recruiting in any meaningful way.

Longterm, if the quality of our S&C program goes up, and this new sports science dealie is a game changer, then certainly we could see a boost in recruiting.

Yea - I don't think the recruiting sell is connections. I think the recruiting sell is the nature of the system and the product it produces.

Well, I did think of one more thing that could theoretically help recruiting short-term. If the new sports science center and Ballou and Co. are particularly impressive when kids visit the campus, that can certainly help recruiting in short order. But it would have no affect on South Florida schools specifically as the guy was asking. I also have no idea if Ballou or Rhea have the type of personality to have that effect on visiting prospects. But perhaps.

My first goal for them is to give Shane Lee the ability to touch his toes.

Absolutely. I don't care if he ran a 4.7 at a camp in high school, the kid lacks the speed and quickness to excel at this level and against these new age, prolific offenses. A big reason for that is that he looks like he is playing too heavy for his frame. I think with diet and training he would look like a boss out there. Of course I am not exactly the smartest page in the book and I could be way off base in my assessment.

To be fair, Saban also pretty much said he wasn't ready to be out there, but we had no choice.

On top of that, he was having to make the defensive calls, which probably gave him less time to focus on his specific role before the snap.

I agree he was physically lacking and Saban must have had him out there for his football smarts because it wasn't due to him being physically imposing.

But I have high hopes for him in the future. True freshman so I'm betting he'll benefit greatly from more time in the weight room. And he must be a smart player already.

All of what you said is more than likely true, but it has nothing to do with the fact that his quickness is horrible and he doesn’t change direction well. The other Freshman didn’t struggle with that

Shane Lee arrived at UA too thick, stiff and slow-twitch. And under Chochran's S&C program he's remained like that. I'm curious to see how well Ballou and Dr Rhea can help him transform his body and its performance capabilities by the time fall camp starts.

The size of the players is not a Cochran decision. A quick look inside the nutrition center would revel that each player has their very own diet that they follow each time these guys belly up to the bar. These guys can't run down the field in practice that the coaches don't know how fast they're running and the amount of effort being put forth. Everything they do and everything they eat is by design. When they are eating at the dining hall they are being coached up.

If Shane Lee gets smaller it's because the coaches demand he gets smaller. Which is why discussions about the size of our defense and the schemes we put them in is a big deal. Which has really nothing to do with Golding's coaching ability when you think about it. He's going to pretty much be who he is regardless of Lee's measurables or anyone else for that matter.

Joint (cartilage, ligament, tendon) and muscular dehydration.

Those tissues dehydrate quickly under stress and recover slowly. The hydration level impacts how pliable the tissues are and how quickly the muscles "twitch". When hydration is low because of repeated intense work, they are more likely to be injured. Fall camp knee injuries often happen 2-3 weeks into camp because the muscle strength over-powers the hydration weakened joints.

I had multiple knee injuries (high school / college) during this same part of the year. Joint dehydration was the likely primary cause each time. I guess I was a slow learner.

The last 3 seasons have been devastating with the number of injuries this team has been through. Being a Yankee fan I watched with the same disbelief as player after player went down almost after every bat, the entire season. Kause was their longtime strength and conditioning coach and he too was fired after the season.

When you see trends and certain types of injuries repeat themselves that's what you do. During the '17' season with all the stress foot fractures, our guys were experiencing it made you wonder if we were practicing on cement.
