He seems to be.

They better have a master plan as to how to keep him because the calls start THIS YEAR.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves.

Love Oats and think he is a great coach but he has a LONG ways to go be Saban

Oats will only leave for a blue blood or NBA. If he goes, the hc at Drake gets my vote.

Billy Donovan didn't become a hot commodity (where UF and NBA wanted him) until after he won back to back NCs at UF.

Hey. My instincts tell me Oats is a multiple championship type guy.

He has a mind like a trap door and can recruit to a basketball backwater.

It's too late to recongnize what you have after they are gone.

I'm hoping he becomes more, a transcendent force that revolutionizes basketball development w/n the state.

So ... There is no plan to keep him. We're sort of like the AAA league for basketball coaches.

At best, right now, Oats is the equivalent of Saban at Michigan State. He seems to be really good, but we just don’t know how good. He may fizzle out like many coaches that could be compared to Saban during his time at Michigan State. However, I hope that’s not the case. But guys, keep in mind, Saban has 7 championships. SEVEN! You can’t even say Coach K is the Saban of basketball.

Are you comparing their mindsets? Maybe there is a better argument to be made there, but if that was your intent you didn’t frame the question well enough. Even if that’s what you meant, it’s still WAY too early to tell.

Are we about to be the new Kentucky for basketball? Probably not. Are about to be a pretty good team? Yes.

People who know frick all about basketball Gumping hard because they saw that we beat UK by 20 in Rupp and think that makes us the 96 Bulls.

I'm not saying we are bad. We actually appear to be a pretty good team. But beating the brakes off of what is probably the worst team Cal has ever had anywhere isn't proof of that.

Is Oats the GOAT basketball coach of all time?

I hope so but seems like a tough call to make right now.

I know a little bit about basketball. I was around for CM and Wimp.

I think this guy is the real deal. He has a vision clear as day. And a plan to get there.

He's sharp. He's driven.

You can sit around and wait and see. My mind is made up.

Build him another building. Do what you need to do.

Can we at least get something actually worth keeping him for before we even have a serious discussion? Sure, this year is off to a great start so far. Can we at least get one SEC championship and a Sweet Sixteen appearance out of him before we start talking about opening up the vault?
