I posted last week (and shamelessly bumped it after the USF game) asking the question “Is it possible that Milroe really is the best we have at QB?” I think we know the answer to that now. Maybe he can grow into it knowing he’s the man going forward and maybe, just maybe, Rees and Co can tailor a game plan to his skills.

All three of them can run, I’m confused why people think only Milroe can run

I’m not sure that’s the case but I’m almost sure this was planned on a weak opponent because Milroe seemed to be completely fine and show good sportsmanship. Like he wasn’t worried. Go back and watch his body language.
Yeah it was as if Saban used the USF game to give Buchner and Ty Simpson a shot at winning the job..
Buchner was the worst we have seen in a while if not ever.
Ty wasn't bad but we had to rely on running and when he did pass he held the ball a while.
I don't even understand why people are so angry when some of us have come to the realization Milroe is the best of the bunch even though he can't read. We just need our OC to do his job and run an offense that caters to his strong points.

Fortunately we have the portal, and I'm sure we'll attract a bunch of top tier QB transfer options after this season who will all be lined up to learn under the great Tommy Rees.

It seems that it was predetermined that USF would be a tryout if Milroe didn't win the job with his performance in the Texas game. Apparently Saban has actually pulled the stunt before in 2002 with Matt Mauck went down to an injury and the Marcus Randell was starting in his place. The fans were clamoring for the 3rd stringer to get a shot, so Saban started the guy and pulled him within a quarter.
Maybe he was sorta letting the facts air themselves out in public to quash any externalities stoking flames that just further complicates the already existing problems.
Not totally unproductive because we did learn that Ty Simpson should be the backup. If Milroe gets hurt, staff won't have to waste time with playing Buckner and go instead to the actual next best option.
The thing we don't know is if Milroe can win a game v. top-25 competition. In that respect, I think the USF game was a missed opportunity for Milroe to get better in live action.

To me he’s more like Mike Vick except he’s right handed, taller, weaker arm, not quite as accurate, and doesn’t run as well.

Maybe semantics but is accuracy really the problem? He throws a great mid to deep ball. He just can’t read the defense for shite

He has to start getting the little things right before we give him that benefit of the doubt.
The sheer gall to say the Nick Saban has to earn the benefit of the doubt after all he's accomplished as a football coach.

I think this is the best we can say right now. He’s the best of the worst. It is what it is.

Saban announced his acceptance to the Liberty bowl .. errrr I mean that milroe will be the QB this year. Thanks Coach

I'm going to have to listen to Saban's press conference. I'm not sure I'm buying this 100% as presented. I think we may be on our way to a 2 QB system.

Jalen was seen several times cheering for them
Was he cheering because they were doing so bad and knew the job was his?
How do you win the starting job when you don't even play? By being the best cheerleader? Lonergan should have been doing his best Scoot Cochran impression.
I'm rooting for Milroe, I hope he comes out and shows out and proves us all wrong, but I don't see it happening over two weeks.

At this stage I’m convinced it’s another Jalen/Tua mess
Long term guy (3.5 years for Milroe) “earned” the job over the younger but more reliable quarterback (Simpson)
Simpson made line adjustments, reads, has the arm and legs down, but we’re going with the guy that can’t do 1 or 2? I just don’t get it
Golding might actually eat us alive

Odds are we will revisit the QB situation again Saturday around 6PM.
We're playing for 7-5 or 8-4.

I give him the benefit of the doubt about almost everything and am certainly grateful, but lets be honest, nothing he has done in the last few years would indicate he is playing this game to bamboozle the might ole miss rebels that almost lost Tulane with their back up QB.

He also supposedly named the starter on a Monday, instead of being obtuse until the game

I mean let’s be honest. Milroe is a legit 4.3/4.4 guy not a slightly faster than normal QB.

Maybe Rees will script plays to JM’s strengths instead of trying to make him a pocket passer.

Tua is way better than Simpson and was a true freshman.

Fully agree, but that’s my point
Saban didn’t budge on a clear cut case where Jalen was hurting our chances to win and it was obvious to everyone. If he didn’t budge then, he certainly wouldn’t budge now
And while Tua was a true freshman, Jalen was a true sophomore who started as a true freshman when Barnett couldn’t get it done. One would think Saban would’ve done the same thing as last year but Hurts had a 14.5 games until he was sat
