The team has been soft since the last national championship team.

Last years team wasn’t really soft, we had some bad injuries in the Natty. The team never gave up, fought hard but didn’t win. I watched the same team fight their arse off against Texas when nothing was going right. There is something to that.

Maybe this goes back to how it was discussed that Saban coddles them a lot more...as a competitor, you tend to play like your coach's demeanor...Saban doesn't show the tirades unless it's at officials or the media...teams from 08 to say 17 or 18 had that hateful in them...since then, as Saban has mellowed, so maybe has the team. Not saying they don't have intensity or play hard, just not the same mentality.

It’s harder to coach this mentality when your schemes are more finesse. “Make his arse quit” when you’re going to line up in 10 personnel, QB in the gun every snap, OL in two point stances, and throw it 50 times isn’t the same as when you’re getting ready to load the wagon with some beef and muscle and bring the pain - like the 2008 team that heard that speech.

I'm sure things like 4th and 1 out of the shotgun with our 320# OLinemen on their heels have no effect on our toughness...

I never can understand why we play soft to start games on defense and let qbs get confidant immediately. Let ewers get hot short and then he was throwing dimes down the field

This isn't your Father's college football.

There's truth to that, but there are still teams that play with focus and intensity so it isn't impossible. But it will continue to get harder as the game continues to shift all the power to the players.

Part of it is a generation of kids who need a safe space every time they don’t get their way.

The other issue is Alabama no longer plays “Alabama” football. Georgia is the new Alabama. They still play run first, play action offense, and physical defense.

That ship has sailed for Alabama. You can’t ask an OL to get tough for three plays a game. If you aren’t practicing running the ball and and defending it, you aren’t playing physical in practice.

Our offense is 7 on 7. I’m happy and grateful for all the great skill players we’ve had recently, but Saban can’t embrace this style offense and then bemoan the fact we don’t have “hateful” players.

I also remember complaining about the boring offenses with our “game manager” QBs and longing for a wide open offense. Well, I got my wish and I’m coming to the realization a bit of both would be nice but probably not possible.

Anyway, forever!
