Sounds like they are happy to just move on to his son

Yeah, that is a serious thought. I would think Sampson would push for his son getting a D1 one position. Makes a lot of sense to keep fans somewhat happy if Sampson leaves.

Congrats hogs, that's a program changer

We will see, could all be smoke. Hunter could be helping Sampson get a bigger raise and in return this is creating a lot of smoke for Hunter to get his real target. I'm too negative to assume this will work out as smoothly as it appears.

Why is everyone so eager to see our players transfer? I'd rather see them all stay, get coached for the first time, and excel at Bama rather than doing the same thing at some other school. Petty can be a better player next year than any freshman recruit we're likely to bring in.

Thats a misrepresentation of what I am saying and reading.

I think most want these kids to stay. However, I would rather any player that MAY have a bad attitude leave.

Again, I think most of us agree but we are disagreeing over semantics. The only way this is incorrect is if yourself or others want Oats to keep players even if they have a poor attitude. (Important point...none of us really know who does or does not have a poor attitude...that is for the new coach to determine)

If Oats decides Petty is not a bad attitude then great...keep him and develop him..or any other player.

If Oats decides Petty is a bad attitude then I hope he would encourage hi to stay in the portal...or any other player.

No one WANTS to see our current players transfer.

Option A: keep a talented player who will buy in.

Option B: keep a talented player who will not buy in.

Option C: lose a talented player who will not buy in.

People are just saying that if it comes down to Option B or Option C, they would prefer Option C.

Not that they would not want Option A at all. Of course people would want Option A if we could make that work.

Another thing you have to factor in is that Coach Pett recruited nearly everyone on the current roster. If he is gone you might expect more transfers and signee defections.

If they all want to buy in and do what Oats expects out of his players, then of course we should want them all to stay. If they don't want to do that then it's best for both parties that they leave.

Oats has to instill his values and system. If the guys want to buy in, then that's great. If they don't want to do that then they should leave. Oats shouldn't compromise his values and beliefs just to keep some guys happy. He needs to lay his foundation down as soon as possible.

Pett needs to go. As much as the University needs new blood, Pett needs to gain experience from outside the University.

Are we hoping he brings Brian Hodgson with him?

I think so - his reputation appears to be very good. I'd imagine the ideal scenario is bringing Hodgson and supplementing him with a solid, veteran coach and a southeastern recruiter type.

Quick question to anyone: Who the heck is Mark Jennings? I assumed he was a Twitter troll because he posts in all caps, but I keep seeing other people reference him

I’ve been curious too.
I was under the assumption that it was drew dearmond or someone in his circle because he used to frequently re-tweet his posts.

Probably yes for his coaching development and growth.

But in the short term it may not be beneficial for this team. Next year might be like Iowa State was last year if there is no player retention. We may have to be very patient for at least a year or two assuming major roster change.

I advise everyone to be patient for the next two years regardless of a roster change or not.
Oats has to bring an entirely new mentality to the team. We will have some attrition.

Who would he hire as assistants?

Here's a rough start to the KenPom Tableau dashboard, comparing Buffalo to Alabama since 2013.

Yes.

I think we all are in agreement with that and it just appears we have 2 different groups disagreeing.

I wouldn't mind him offering Retin to take ponytail's place, maybe his guy Hodgson as his top assistant, a dude with very strong JUCO ties as another assistant. And last, a guy with Southeastern HS connections who is good at player development for the last guy.

I guess I don't understand why anyone thinks they need to say that water is wet. The point I have been making is that all this talk about attitudes and buying in is baseless conjecture by fans looking for reasons that players haven't panned out like they thought. When, the REAL reason is that they were playing for a coach that didn't know what he was doing, and it eventually affected how they practiced, played, and cared. "Attitude" is the first and laziest excuse used by fans when something isn't going right for a player.

Now, since we all agree, let's move on and hope our players come back and our new coach teaches them some stuff.
