"Change of pace" here

The basketball strength coach...

Anyone find it odd that Byrne fired him? (Not that I think he was doing a good job). But it does not seem normal for the AD to fire a member of the staff like that...usually the incoming coach has the opportunity to evaluate.

It just seems to be a strong statement this guy must have really been unimpressive in his job performance for the AD to go ahead and do that.

Donta got no bigger in his 4 years here. We got manhandled everytime a team had a good big.

OR, Donovan doesn't want him, but does want Pelphrey back on his staff...

I'm joking. Mostly.

I agree...But for the AD to go ahead and make the call is even more damning. I am sure there are others with subpar job performance within the staff...but the new coach will be able to make the call on them.

Just appears that Byrne is saying no way this guy is being allowed back. Guy must have sucked more than even we realized and we all thought it was already pretty bad.

Few things make me melt. Kira going to Auburn would be one of them

I have no inside info, but knowing what I know about Lou, this would not surprise me.

Hate to see Petty go, but if he is not committed to the school then that’s on him. If we have to start from square one, then so be it. Honestly, I am worried about the coach than a few players.

Let's be realistic, for a second. And I'm not talking to anyone specifically. But, what do they have to be committed to at this time? They don't have a coach. And, all they do have is however many years of shitty coaching and little success. Why should they be committed right now?

I get tired of every time a player has a bad game, or decides to transfer, or, in this case, opens up his options to talk to other teams about transferring, our fans turn on them personally. I know this isn't just an Alabama problem. Fans do it everywhere. But it's also an Alabama problem. After every game there was a new list of basketball players that "fricking sucked." The truth is, some of them probably aren't great. But, why do you feel the need to overdo it and pretend that they're "terrible" and "selfish" and "a cancer" or whatever? It's just kids trying to play basketball.

Amen to that. If kids want to transfer and feel it's best for them they should.

Teague, I agree with you mostly. But attitudes like Petty are probably part of the problem. Yes, Alabama failed on their end of the deal for his first two years. But now they are trying to fix it. But Petty just says frick it, I’m gone, even though we might bring in a home run hire, nobody knows yet.

Fine, get yo’ bitch arse outta here then. I hope we hire Donovan just so you see what a horrible choice you made by being a bitch.

It’s a two way street. I understand players keeping all options available to them. I don’t understand players copping an attitude when we get rid of a nice guy but a loser coach.

John Petty clarifying - tells me that there is still a chance he stays at Alabama, depending on new coach.

You’re not the only one. You should look at all the Bama fan responses to Goodman’s tweet about him transferring regardless. We have some of the worst fans sometimes.

From Goodman again

Maybe we should all just wait and see how things play out

Positive Spin Zone: Even if you lose every player in the portal, that could make it easier for the next coach to get his pieces in place. Obviously you don't want to lose kira no matter what cause any coach will get a player like that to work in his system.

We are fans. That means we stick with our team through good times and bad. Players often don't have that relationship with the school and never will though. They see it as a means to an end rather than some sort of ideal. We want them to feel the way we do though, so when they indicate a desire to leave and go play elsewhere people tend to take it personally even though they really shouldn't.
