Those last two games were fantastic...but once they were done and I reflect back on the other bowls and season in general, it is depressing.

People are saying that CFB is becoming NFL minor leagues. The reality is that it already became that, we are just in denial. The change is irreversible too.

The blame is not the players or even ESPN. The blame is the pencil necked dweebs that run the universities. Remember back when every bit of saturday wasnt monetized? Now your wallet gets thinner from parking, to tailgating, to way overpriced food from foodservice companies in the stadium, to the thousands and thousands of dollars required to have season tickets. And of course TV where it seems we get as much commercial as game. The university presidents and their underlings enriched themselves on the backs of CFB and that opened the door for the loss of amateurism. When the schools get rich off the players, you cant justify denying the players to get rich too.

Going to games in the 90s and early 00s was a completely different experience. The pride and pageantry is dead. At this point, we should end the charade and might as well just completely separate the programs from the schools. Whats the point of making the players go to class anymore? If they want to go to class, they can pay the tuition with their salary.

I’ve been to most of the NC and SECCG under Saban and I’m not sure I’ll renew my season tickets next year.

The LSU and UT games were special this year, but man the money and time involved with following what’s now a pro sport is really making me question how I want to spend the fall next year.

I just canceled my hotel, airfare and rental car for Houston and for two people to attend that game I would’ve spent $4k with tickets.

A lot of truth here that is tough to admit, or give up, from life time fans.

With the 12 team playoffs, regular season games won’t be as impactful as they once were. Think about some of the huge home games we’ve had in Tuscaloosa and how now the outcomes of those games really won’t matter like they once did.

We’re entering a totally new era of college football that will feel totally different than it once was and in my opinion, that’s not a good thing.

Dont get me wrong, im still gonna watch...but going back 5 years ive watched less and less cfb every consecutive year. I probably only watched only about half of the Bama games this year(which makes me feel silly for having so much to say about last nights game).

Preach

Conference realignment
NIL
Transfer Portal
12 team playoff system

Be thankful that we got to enjoy Bama's run through the final years of what used to be College Football.

Agree with everything said here. The problem is that there's really no alternative that gives even close to the entertainment value that college football gave at its peak. It's going to be and already is a pale imitation of what it was but I can't confidently say I'll stop watching because there's really no viable alternative.

ETA: I expect that I'll only be watching SEC next year. The other conferences are just totally soulless now. I can't imagine anyone being excited to watch UCLA vs Maryland.

I think for me and most people, it will be a slow trickle. After Saban is gone and players become employees the steady decline will begin. I predict that a lot of smaller schools will be unable to maintain their programs and will either end their programs or join/form new divisions. Once a lot of old money folks that really fuel programs and NIL start to pass on their wealth, the ones inheriting it wont have the same passion.

Look at actual attendance(not tickets sold). Its not great

My interest has been slowly waning every year for a while now. But if you stop watching, what do you go to instead? I've tried watching other sports but they lack the complexity and variation of football. The NFL is just a soulless corporate product that has no pageantry or tradition, plus you have no tangible connection to a team the way you do as an alumnus of a university. So I guess for me it's either just give up sports entirely or continue watching but knowing it's worse.

The questions is how long will the Paul Bryant Jr's and YellaFellas continue to send their grandchildrens money to support the college's. Who is going to fund the never-ending replacement of facilities?

Curious how long the NIL requests can co-exist with coaching salaries and facility needs. Maybe that well is deep enough to draw from for all areas but it wouldn’t surprise me if eventually boosters say they can only do so much.

I think this will be my last trip. Just don't like where it is headed. With the 12 team playoff, a regular participant might have to travel to three different postseason games. I don't see how a fan base can sustain that. Wondering how the Washington and Michigan fan bases are going to support two long trips this year.

Proponents of the playoff say it is no different than division three or the NFL with multiple games, but nobody but family and close friends attend those, and NFL games are dominated by the home team for attendance. I don't see it being sustained by more than 3-4 followings. Going to end up with gaping holes in seats. This trip was great to get to see the parade and some beautiful scenery, but it was a $5K trip all in for two people.

I'm only 27 but I've felt my interest in CFB wane a lot in recent years. I used to love the coverage of the sport. I still greatly enjoy GameDay but I used to enjoy all of the coverage almost just as much. It's so dull now that it's just not interesting. Even when we play well I don't find myself watching my analysis or coverage anymore. And I usually pretty quickly move on. It's probably more healthy this way. But I do wonder how much more my interest will drop in coming years

I have mixed feelings about the future. I've been a Tide Pride member for lots of years and attended sporadic games for years before that. I've been a fan since childhood, and that was decades ago. College football is changing and probably not in a good way. I'm on the fence about renewing my Tide Pride for the upcoming season.

I started with 2 seats in U4-CC in 2007.

In 2012 I moved to better seats and added 2 more.

In 2021 a lot of people after covid gave up their seats. I was able to get 4 more in U4-EE. Now I have 8 seats.

I let them all go after 2021.

The fact that, with my low point total, I was able to get 4 more seats in a better location told me that lots of people were giving up their seats.

Obviously, I got the extra 4 for resale. But OOC tickets had become worthless. Could barely give them away. And weaker SEC games like MSU and Arkansas had lost half their value over the years also.

Facilities are gonna take a back seat...you may never see significant investment in facilities ever again. Recruiting is just gonna be a playing time/salary negotiation

I've personally been spending a lot more time outside hunting/camping/fishing during the fall the last 6-7 years. It started on Sundays with the NFL and is creeping into Saturdays.
