So we discuss from time to time the specific replacement for when Saban leaves, but I generally want to discuss possible results and if we'd be satisfied.

Let's look at LSU and Alabama pre Saban.

LSU : 10 years pre-Saban (1989-1999)
> Overall Record : 53-59-1 (47%)
> SEC Record : 30-46-1 (39%)
> 0 National Titles
> 0 SEC Titles
> 0 SEC West Titles
> 0 Top 10 finishes
> 2 Top 25 finishes
> 7 losing seasons
> 1 season with 2 or less losses
> 3 football coaches (DiNardo, Hallman, Archer)

Alabama : 10 years pre-Saban (1997-2006)
> Overall Record : 67-55 (55%)
> SEC Record : 41-41 (50%)
> 0 National Titles
> 1 SEC Titles
> 1 SEC West Titles
> 2 Top 10 finishes
> 3 Top 25 finishes
> 4 losing seasons
> 1 season with 2 or less losses
> 3 football coaches (that coached a game) (DuBose, Fran, Shula)

So we were slightly better off the decade before than LSU, not hitting nearly their consistent depths of awfulness, but obviously both programs were way, way far off from being in the national title discussion pre-Saban.

Now........first 5 seasons post-Saban at LSU (after 5 years I think it is safe to say the prior coaches fingerprints have disapeared)

LSU : 5 years post-Saban (2005-2009)
> Overall Record : 51-15 (77%)
> SEC Record : 27-13 (68%)
> 1 National Title
> 1 SEC Title
> 2 SEC West Titles
> 3 Top 10 finishes
> 4 Top 25 finishes
> 0 losing seasons
> 3 seasons with 2 or less losses

So, looking at all that..........my question is.........if Coach X comes in and gives us that 5 year post-Saban run........are you satisfied?

To do what he did at LSU alone makes him one of the greatest coaches ever. They were never a football power and he made them one - at least for awhile. Bama had higher expectations - albeit unrealistic ones at that time due to coaching and sanctions.

So, there is no replacing this man’s greatness in his field.

Look, I’m happy that we have had what we’ve had - but it will not last. Nothing ever does. I’ll be happy with a Natty run every few years and almost always in the run for a SEC title. But I also want a program that is clean and plays hard with consistently good football.

Any coach that gets a national championship is by default a satisfying coach.

You've convinced me that we should get Les Miles.

Chicken would probably have to pull the plug if Alabama won the Natty

LOL, I think the bigger point is that the structure is set up that a guy who is solid can come in and win big and consistently. Doesn't have to be a superstar.

If we could hold on to a damn assistant hiring from within wouldn't be too bad

Theoretically no. Only because I’m spoiled rotten as a fan over my lifetime witnessing two of the greatest coaches in the history of cfb roam the sidelines at Bama.

Realistically yes. I could accept that record. But beyond 5yrs he better start to dominate. Like I said... I’m spoiled rotten.

I'm still waiting to see what Pruitt does, I loved his media day presser.

He took full blame for last year. A bunch of my fellow alums want Urban, I do not!!

I’d be satisfied maybe, I was born in 1990 so most of my memories from a kid are mixed with success and failure when it comes to Alabama football. However, my adult memories are of the greatest run in the history of college football and one of the best in all of sports history.

Obviously the biggest factor is who takes over, Saban - I think - will have a say in this process

It’ll take time for all of us to adjust to not being in the hunt every year and winning 11 games or more a year

I would love a Jeremy Pruitt who has shown he can win. Wish he didn't have to show that at Tennessee though

When Saban first got here, I was just hoping for the same. A title run every few years...always in the hunt for the SEC. Ceiling: undefeated/title season. Floor during rebuilding years: 8-4. I'd be satisfied with that with the next coach (unless its Dabo...he could sustain the current level of success).

That said...I don't think the next coach will be a proven elite guy.

actually, when Saban retires is when all those assistant coaches leaving may become a good thing. That is, they would have head coaching experience and may be a suitable replacement for Saban. That said, the only one of his assistant coaches at Alabama that may be good enough to come back is at his alma mater, probably till he is fired or retires. Pruitt may become good enough. It will be interesting to see how Cristobal works out.

I will be satisfied if we win as many games as Les did at LSU the first five years.

I would hope we can be consistent sort of like Ohio State regardless of who we hire. I can't stand Ohio State but just look at them over the past 20 or so years and they are consistently in the top 5 or 10 and sans Urban Meyer they didn't exactly go out and get top of the line coaches in who they have now and Jim Tressel

I just hope they don’t hire the defensive line coach based on booster emails.
