Fun fact. 12% of the existence of the SEC network has been dedicated to Paul Finebaum

And it’s an absolute joke. Everytime I try to tune in, I get reminded about how fricking awful his show is.

Embarrassing that he’s the face of the SEC Network.

Hahaha no that was 2007

The game I posted was the first game of the DuBose era - 1997. A real historical moment.

And he's gotten even worse. He's somehow decided, or been told, that he is now the defender of the SEC aka Sean Hannity on FOX or Lawrence O'Donnell on MSNBC.

He just says absurd and ridiculous things, where he used to just kind of be a stick that prodded rednecks into hilarious and embarassing phone calls.

Absolutely. I think it’s also the fact that he really doesn’t know a whole lot about about the game of football. He can speak to the politics of it (even though he’s overrated at that as well) but you try to get him to discuss details and he gives you a word salad in order to run out the clock.

His show had some use back in the pre-social media days as an outlet for fans but now it’s a relic.

Hell, I wish that they'd make these kind of games at 8 am.

Wake>bake>coffee>Bama football. Would be awesome.

Yeah, this kickoff time in September sucks, especially when they’re trying to get and keep butts in seats for these cupcake games.

That's a really good point - it was basically redneck SEC (and really just Alabama/Auburn) twitter/message boards live and on air and he was the maestro.

I mean I'll be honest, I'll do the 2 TV setup outside, but my eyes are going to be over on Clemson/A&M as much as they are going to be on our game.

It is, but those agreements are amendable and can be flexible. If Byrne and Saban wanted to pushback against ESPN on this, they could. Fact is, they don't really care. The AD got their money already, and altering the kickoff time would cost them more money to re-work the logistics. It's all about money.

Even a half empty stadium this weekend will have little impact. The fans are powerless in this. Maybe if a handful of games have such paltry attendance, it'll wake them up because of declining concessions revenue, but I doubt it.

I know the SEC Network brings in the money, but AD’s have to realize now that it does come with a cost. We say that during basketball season when we have those awful 8:00 tipoffs and people wonder why Coleman isn’t full.

You signed a deal that gave fans the option to stay at home and that’s what they are choosing to do.

One of the good things about living on the west coast is that you pretty much get football as soon as you wake up. Maybe the last 15 minutes of gameday. if you wake up before 9am.

At least that could be entertaining when certain fanbases were struggling (imagine the old Finebaum show w/Tennessee's current mess).

Now the show is just another corporate ESPN production

If this was 2005, then it absolutely would be. However we have plenty of ways to enjoy the misery of other fanbases now. I don't have to wade through the BS of Finebaum. This is going to be a bold statement but the callers (at least from the little I listen to) are worse. Amazingly, you get a lot more know-nothings now that it's a regional/national show who just waste time and aren't even entertaining.

And you're right in that it's a corporate production now. Last year during LSU week, I tuned in hoping to hear an interview about the game. Nope.....it was wall-to-wall coverage of SEC Women's Basketball Media Days.

SEC Network has so much potential to be a really good Southern network but it's run by shills in Charlotte.

Just think of all the untapped potential there is there. Hell, just look across the regional podcast/message board/website landscape of the SEC at the stuff that get puts together by people. Imagine those folks running things.

Oh well.

i've said this before. the only thing that will get their attention, is if nobody showed up. as it is, there's no reason for them to even consider change.

To be the flagship football program in the SEC, Bama sure doesn’t throw its weight around like they should.

It is absolutely the fault of the SEC TV contract.

The problem is the other AD's not having the balls to take night games away from LSU.

The night game on the SEC Network Saturday is Arkansas @ Ole Miss, not an LSU game.

Doesn't the SEC NW have 2 or 3 channels they can use? Yes, they do. Their crew that's doing our game isn't doing another one that night. So, they could easily broadcast this week's game at night.

I only see one.

And they're broadcasting Arkansas-Ole Miss at night.

Yeah I have no idea who thought that the Finebaum show was actually worthy of becoming nationally televised. It was fun for what it was, and the guest segments were usually pretty solid, but the real value of it was his talent as a pot stirrer who could whip stupid rednecks into a frenzy and then give them a platform to express themselves for our amusement. Ever since moving to SECN they have tried to make it a serious sports talk show with some comedy mixed in and not the other way around like it used to be, which has killed much of the fun of it.
