The 4 people that were arrested for tearing down the Robert E. Lee statue have been released because the DA found issues with the warrants and affidavits.

Half of that group was clearly black.
I counted 13 protesters in the photo where the officers were in tactical gear.
Four look to be black or maybe biracial.
Four is not half or even close to half of 13, but nice try.

The sheer amount of profound stupidity and intellectual dishonesty that goes into equating wanting the cops to stop killing people and justifying someone killing the cops is fricking staggering. And these people comprise a solid 1/3 of the country.

And when someone like Philando Castile, Walter Scott, or Daniel Shaver is killed by the police for absolutely no reason at all, just like this officer was killed by a couple of shitbag meth heads for absolutely no reason at all, that should ruin your day too, but I seriously doubt it does, which is the problem.

Are you one of those who simultaneously believes that police systematically target black citizens for petty offenses, but also that those same police should be entrusted with enforcing, at their discretion, a litany of new gun control laws?

I'm also for ending the war on drugs, so can we call it a wash?

A Wall Street Journal article yesterday: The Myth of Systemic Police Racism. Last year 1,104 people were fatally shot by police officers and about 25% of those were black. That share of black victims is less than what the black crime rate would predict, since police shootings are a function of how often officers encounter armed and violent suspects. Blacks make up 53% of known homicide offenders in the US and commit about 60% of the armed robberies, though they make up 13% of the population. Last year police fatally shot 9 unarmed blacks and 19 unarmed whites. Those 9 that were killed represent .1% of blacks that were killed in 2019. A police officer is 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a black male than an unarmed black male is to be killed by a police officer. The article points to 3 different recent studies that concluded there is "no significant evidence of antiblack disparity in the likelyhood of being fatally shot by police." Harvard economist Roland G Fryer Jr also found no evidence of racial discrimination. Any evidence to the contrary fails to take into account crime rates and civilian behavior before and during interactions with police.
Not part of that article, but the race that is least likely to be shot by a police officer are the Asians. And I dont tthink its because police officers get up in the morning and think I am going to love on me an Asian today. They just commit less crime than any other race-in the US, so they have less police interaction than whites or blacks, or Hispanics.

It’s great that you know so much about me. I can barely stomach watching the George Floyd video. It’s despicable to me. That doesn’t mean I can’t comment on how heartbreaking and tragic this story is.

Another night of CNN calmly explaining to their devout listeners how these peaceful protesters are being completely misunderstood. All the while their cameras are trying to shield their viewer's eyes from the most destructive aspect of looters and rioters. After all, it's just the democratic system at work. Fox News spends their evenings highlighting every rock and act of vandalizing that takes place to the smallest maw and paw shop and how fortunate we all are to have a president like Trump to combat anarchist and usurpers of civility and decorum as we know it.
The truth? Somewhere in between. Always somewhere in between. Makes a guy feel like the solution to this mess is just right around the corner.

But if you are looking into "the myth of systemic racism", you have to dig further than surface level.

Well, maybe you couldn't have said it any better, but I don't believe that making assumptions and sweeping generalizations towards people that you know little about is the benchmark of rational thought.

I've been watching coverage across several networks almost nonstop since Sunday morning, and this patently false. CNN had a guy standing in the middle of a shopping center in Santa Monica Sunday afternoon as it was being looted. You know who was ignoring it? The police standing 50 yards away. They had all of their attention on a group of protesters. And that was not the only instance I saw of the networks covering the looting and property destruction.

Absolutely. I've stayed up well past midnight the past 3 nights watching the events. Here's what I've noticed. Cameramen(whether it be news journalist or a protester streaming) walks with a group of protesters. THey're mostly peaceful with occasional non-violent confrontations with police. Those are quelled and they move on. Eventually a group of looters will ingratiate themselves within that group. As they approach a cross street with no police presence, the looters take off down that street and start looting. The protesters scream at them to stop, the commotion causes a police response, and the police end up arresting more of the protesters than the looters because the protesters are sitting ducks.
I've seen the above happen at least a dozen times the past 3 nights.

You got any video of some poor white dude getting beat down like he's Rodney King? We can discuss that instead. I'll gladly take a videotape of 4 black policemen all standing around each other as one of them puts a knee to the back of the neck of some "White" dude and slowly squeezes the life out of him.
Show me what you got? Why allow mere "myth" to get in the way of your reality?
