He cannot move them unless he wants to saddle Birmingham with a $25,000 PER DAY fine.
AG Marshall said today it would only be a one time fine. So I expect the city is fine with paying it.

“The Alabama Monuments Preservation Act provides a singular avenue for enforcement — the filing of a civil complaint in pursuit of a fine, which the Alabama Supreme Court has determined to be a one-time assessment of $25,000. The Act authorizes no additional relief,” Marshall said in a statement Monday.

It's certainly hilarious the people clamoring for social distancing the last few weeks are suddenly okay with mass gatherings.

Hell yeah. Crazy that the city has to pay 25k to tear down a monument that the community overwhelmingly wants removed, but if that's what we gotta do, lets get it down.

quote:Yep. Who will the city pay the fine to? The state? If so, would be a cool gesture if they were to donate the check to something like the Equal Justice Initiative or some organization in Birmingham.

Just set up a gofundme. If folks are as mad about it as they say, then they should get plenty of cash

This would be awesome, and I would love to see it. Sadly, I think it may be too good of an idea for our state government to go along with it though.

For anyone wanting to donate to take the statues down, this gofundme has already raised $16,000

There's been rumors of these "busses of looters" for days and they haven't shown up.
I haven't seen any rumors here about buses bringing people in. It's more just Bham residents. There was a LOT of chatter on Twitter last night about hitting the suburbs today.
I think it's a little much ado about nothing, though seeing a few businesses getting hit wouldn't surprise me. I don't see a coordinated, widespread attack on the suburbs.

Don’t worry. Funny Maine went and handed out checks to black business owners in Birmingham today that were damaged.
I guess he doesn’t feel bad for the other business owners
Even though I bet you can count the number of the white owned businesses that were damaged on one hand, it’s still absolutely ridiculous to say “I am raising money to only help damaged businesses that are owned by people of a certain skin color.” Really helping smooth things over.
Saw that he was bragging about how he raised his goal of $5,000. I bet that really goes a long way to fix the damage he caused.

Buddy of mine in Columbus , OH said they found buses with meat cleavers , bats, etc disguised as a kids library bus TIFWIW. Seems to be pretty organized if true

Pallets of bricks magically appeared on the sidewalks in some cities.
Posted on 6/1/20 at 7:53 pm to TideSaint
I saw those videos of bricks with no construction around.
Seems like they could trace who bought that stuff.

There has been lots of video and pictures coming from both sides that seem to indicate this is an organized attack. Pallets of bricks showing up at set locations. Random white dudes dressed in black smashing out windows. It really starts to have a preplanned organized assault on our country. It is a different conversation, but there clearly is evidence to suggest someone is using all of this to further some sort of agenda.

There are provocateurs from outside, but most of the looting and rioting is being done by poor inner city folks looking to take advantage of the situation.

Agent provocateurs are pretty common in these things, and they run the gamut on their ideology. They all have the main goal of inciting more chaos, damage, and/or violence. In some countries they are hired by the government. China used them in Hong Kong. Russia has used them for years.
There is a LOT of misinformation out there on what is actually going on across the country, and both sides are guilty of spreading it. Selectively editing video to remove important context. Best example was the so-called Dallas business owner that was initially said to have been killed defending his business. He neither died, nor was he the owner of the business, and other video showed he was charging people with a machete. I've fallen for a few of them, so I don't say that to criticize anyone. Just be skeptical of what is being presented to you, especially if it's coming from a highly biased source.
