Garrett is in Miami. Have not seen word on Togiai or Smith.

I feel pretty confident that OSU will be down at least a few players. It remains to be seen if they are starters, rotation players, or backups. As much smoke as there has been leading up to the game, I would be extremely surprised if they showed up with everybody ready to go.

I’m looking at their COVID ineligible players as a counter to our injuries. Chances are, if they have a similar off-season program to the SEC, ACC, and B12, then play a full season, they probably wouldn’t be dealing with these issues right now, as most of the team would have already dealt with COVID in the summer or during the season.

Obviously I’m not wishing COVID on anyone, but there’s a reason the B1G had issues with it every week of the season and others didn’t, and it’s not just their different conference protocols.

So finally we have a legit source (I think?) providing clarity on who is out for anOSU:

quote:

Tommy Togiai and Tyreke Smith are both out due to the virus. I know a lot of rumors have been floating around that Togiai may have had a false positive. My sources say this is not true and that he will miss the game.

quote:

My sources also tell me that the Buckeyes will be without Blake Haubeil and Dominic DiMaccio. Both kickers will miss the game due to COVID. It will be up to freshman Jake Seibert to handle the kicking duties, something he hasn’t done all season long.

quote:

We already know that Myian Williams is out for the game as well.

quote:

There are a few other backups who will also miss the game. There’s a chance that Ohio State only has four defensive ends available. These are all of the names I have been able to confirm at this point. The main concern for me is the kicking position and having Togiai out.

Pretty much in line with most of the stories we’ve seen this week. Good to have an actual report with seemingly legitimate news. Thanks for the update!

Can I go ahead and put money down that he will make a 45+ yard FG against us?

If this is true it will be interesting to see how many hidden yards this will account for on kickoffs if any. Hauibeil and DiMaccio aren't strong leg kickers to begin with. DiMaccio was replaced by Haubeil on kickoffs during the season and then DiMaccio replaced Haubeil in the playoff game. Neither kicked off well. Also this could lead to a lot more going for it on 4th down in plus territory with Haubeil being out for FGs. Especially since statistically it really doesn't make much different whether you give Bama the ball on the 20 or the 40, they are pretty much been likely to score regardless.

I have a feeling that the covid stories were just their way to give us a false sense of security. I’ll be surprised if it is more than 2 players.

^^^ agree... I would be surprised if any starters are not there, maybe a couple of back up scout team members; but that is about it.

I don't think so. I think that was Luke Wypler that everyone saw in that video.

quote:

Tim May was just on Bishop and Laurinaitis on 97.1 the fan and just confirmed all of the names I mentioned yesterday are players he also believes will be out tonight.

He's referring to Smith, Togiai, backup RB, and the two kickers.

The Athletic ranked the Top 30 NFL Prospects in the game

These were the guys on that list from the OSU Defense

13. Tommy Togiai (DT)
14. Baron Browning (LB)
16. Pete Werner (LB)
20. Haskell Garrett (DT)
22. Shaun Wade (CB)
25. Sevyn Banks (CB)
26. Tyreke Smith (Edge)
29. Jonathon Cooper (Edge)

So, pretty big deal, especially considering that was the one area where they might have an edge and be able to disrupt stuff.

Seems like there are some rumors gaining traction that Togiai may actually play. Something having to do with OSU deciding to scrap B1G guidelines and adopt the CDC guidelines for the game? Who knows

Of course they're going to scrap Big Ten rules if it benefits them. Just like they were trying to get the game postponed at the beginning of the week.

Seriously, how and why are they struggling so much with keeping players virus free?

Where are these rumors originating from?

Just speculating, but I bet since they had a shortened off-season that they didn’t have herd immunity to the degree all of the teams in other conferences have. So, the virus is still making its way through the team now rather than pre-season.

I'm reading them on elevenwarriors, but the the evidence is as follows:
1. Zach Smith said he's playing on his podcast a little bit ago.
2. A former player source on Bucknuts said OSU adopted the CDC guidelines instead of the B1G guidelines and so Togiai can play.

My favorite part is how they kept a 300 pound man hidden the whole week for the big reveal .
