Post-Vandy Thoughts. Glass Half Full

I've been accused by many on here of being a troll. And now these same people are ready to give up on the team, coaching staff, Greg Byrne, etc while I step in as the voice of reason.
Obviously this was a bad loss. It's embarrassing. They're Vandy. We're Alabama. We should never lose to a team like that.
However, unlike some, I'm not giving up.
For starters, didn't we just beat the best team in the SEC last week? In fact, we came out and dominated them. DeBoer can win the big games on the big stages. He's already proven that. On a more practical level, that win over Georgia is KEY when it comes to making the SECCG and playoffs. Even if we both drop 2 games, we'll get in over them.
We have a great chance to win out the rest of the way.
Why did we lose to Vandy?
Well for starters, Vanderbilt's offense is a 4-2-5's worst fricking nightmare, and it's being executed to perfection by a veteran QB who has followed his HC around. Trust me when I say we're not the last team that is going to be given fits by Vanderbilt this year.
The good news is, we won't see another offense even remotely close to this for the rest of the year. Our defense is designed specifically for offenses like Missouri's, LSU's, Auburn's, and Texas's.
Here's another thought.
While it's true that Alabama has more talent than just about anyone, these guys weren't recruited and developed for the DeBoer offense, nor the 4-2-5 defense.
Milroe, while he's looked pretty good so far, is not a QB that DeBoer would've ever recruited. Jayden Daniels is basically the prototype for this offense. Keelon Russell fits that bill, and is a huge get for this program.
Our WR corps outside of Ryan Williams and the Washington transfer Bernard, is basically non-existent. DeBoer is having to rebuild this unit from the ground up.
The offensive line is also not built for this offense.
That brings us to the defense, where once again we've got dudes that were recruited specifically for a different scheme entirely.
Speaking of recruiting, DeBoer has proven to be top-notch in that area as well.
Maybe give this guy time to bring in his players and implement his culture, and his schemes.
I still think this season's outlook is bright. I think we have a real shot at winning the SEC. We already beat our toughest opponent on the year. We just need to regroup and ball out from here on.

I didn't read all that shite. Gimme the TLDR.

I like the cut of your jib… but I’m not ready yet to pump sunshine… Tuesday, maybe Wednesday…but not today.

TLDR;
We're gonna be fine. SEC win vs Georgia will be huge when it comes to getting in the SECCG and playoffs.
We already beat our toughest opponent.
Vandy's triple option offense and veteran QB was the perfect storm for the 4-2-5. We won't see anything like that again moving forward. Our D is perfect for Missouri, Auburn, Texas, Tennessee.
DeBoer is a great recruiter. Give the staff time to get the players that fit THEIR scheme. While we have talent, most of these guys don't fit what DeBoer and Wommack would like to do

I have less concerns about the offense, besides the total lack of running back utilization, than the defense
The 4-2-5 looked like shite yesterday. It looked like shite the week before. And it looked like shite two weeks ago when it dodged multiple deep balls for a touchdown because the QB couldn’t put it remotely near the wide open receiver. Even on film review against Georgia there were some blatant misses by Beck in the first half where we blew coverage
This season hinges on the defense and there’s no real glass half full angle besides the run defense being okay yesterday at times

Now you are trying to do the anti troll thing were you think our coach is shitty and you want us to keep him. I’m not falling for your lies.
Just kidding I don’t care, just thinking dumb shite.

Maybe, maybe not.
Just keep this in mind though as you sunshine pump like a man possessed. The #1 ranked, elite talented Alabama Crimson Tide lost to a rancid gut pile of a football team. Not only did Alabama lose to said team. Alabama got its arse beaten by said team from the opening kick off to the last. At no point did Alabama control the game, at no point did Alabama hold the lead.
Something's wrong with this team. What? I don’t know, but what I do know is that loss doesn't have one single fricking thing to do with the Vanderbilt Commodores or the scheme they run. Not one thing.
The Alabama Crimson Tide lost a football game to the Vanderbilt Commodores.

Well for better or worse, the 4-2-5 is what this coach does.

Vandy IMO will be in a bowl game at the end of the year. We absolutely should have beaten their arse but the “rancid gut pile” thing is just silly.

Vandy even called their shot during the coin toss. Their players said at midfield they wanted the ball because our defense was trash.
They were right

The Vanderbilt Commodores will lose 6 more football games.

They will beat Ball State, they will beat S.C. and they will beat the Barn to get bowl eligible. They’ll lose to Texas and probably LSU and Tennessee. I think they have a chance to beat Kentucky.

LSU has zero defense, they could easily lose that game
Posted on 10/6/24 at 5:45 pm to FairhopeTider
We won the toss and deferred.

Go listen to the radio replay on YouTube. You can hear them saying that.

I will say again, we should have won that game yesterday. It’s inexcusable that we didn’t win that game yesterday. There had better be a serious gut check for everyone from DeBoer down to the managers this week.
But while Vanderbilt may not be a great team talentwise, they’re a damn difficult team to play because of what they do, especially if they do it perfectly.

It’s going to take me a while to feel any sort of positivity about this team and this coaching staff. We lost to Vanderbilt, which is simply unacceptable. Hopefully they figure it out at some point.
I’m not ready to fire DeBoer, but he has to earn back the trust and faith of the Alabama fan base. This is where he proves how badly he wants to be here.
