No. Haven't really seen them while he's been there either.

Well Bama is not a prime destination for top up and coming coaches. The sooner we realize this the better.

We can be. We have one of the strongest athletic programs in the country. We have championship football, softball, gymnastics, and golf programs. For God's sake, we should be able to commit the resources to have the same success in basketball.

It takes more than money to win. It starts with the ad.

You will never get better with that mindset.

BAMA could easily be a top destination for a super coach that is coming up in the ranks. They just need to start spending the money on the program. Everything starts with the the coach.

I'd give White a slight edge over Prohm. The year before White arrived, La Tech went 12-20. Yeah, that bad. White's first year, 18-16. Then 27-7, 29-8, and 27-9 this year. He keeps getting knocked out of the conference tourney early, thus no NCAA appearances despite the gaudy records and the regular season conference championships in the WAC the last 3 years. He was an assistant at Ole Miss and asst head coach at Jax State as well. He was the recruiting coordinator for Jax State so he knows the state of Alabama. And he's a darn good recruiter. He helped Ole Miss land 3 top 25 recruiting classes. I haven't watched their games but I understand he prefers an up tempo, exciting style of basketball. Of the lesser known candidates, he's my favorite. No, he's not a splash hire. But the guy has a good, if rather brief track record, coached and played in the SEC, wins big at his current job, knows the state and surrounding area, and probably would jump at the chance to take the job. I'd take him over Prohm all day long and twice on Sunday. All Prohm has done is take over a Murray State program that was humming along and he hasn't screwed it up.

Murray State was already strong in conference before he got there. LINK

Dayton wasn't as successful in conference but successful none the less LINK

Miller has at least showed strongly against OOC opponents, Prohm has been massacred.

If true then screw Marshall. How can you give assurances like that to a school without your family being on board? What a dick thing to do. Zero respect for Gregg Marshall.

As for the money from WSU, I think a lot of people thought they could probably get to around $3 million. Not sure how that was a surprise.

There has to be someone between Marshall and Prohm. Timing is everything when it comes to coaches but surely its not feast or famine out there at the moment.

It's the same mindset Tom Jurich uses with success.

I think (or at least I am hoping) they are waiting for the Final 4 to gauge a lot of coaches' interest. We should hear some more solid names after that

Hiring Prohm would be a massive letdown after going for someone like Marshall.

Major letdown if that happens. You could make a case that we should've kept Grant and held out for next year in hope that the timing would be better to land a good coach. Timing is literally everything when it comes to getting a good coach.

If the two alternatives in this search are Marshall and Grant, I don't think anyone on this board could've done worse. That's not really a shot at Battle because it could be that bad out there...but anyone can make an offer and get rejected by the top coach and anyone could get Prohm to come to UA.

I'd rather see is gamble on an NBA guy, than settle on an unproven mid major guy. Be it Avery Johnson, Marc Jackson, or any other guy out there (I'm out of the loop when it comes to NBA guys).

Yeah, I agree.

Prohm could be another Rick Pitino, but with the current upgrade in coaching in the SEC, we have to try to do better. The hire would make more sense if this was 5-10 years ago and Stan Heath, Jeff Lebow, and Billy Gillespie were still around.

I might be more open to cjp if he had built Murray state into regular tournament teams. But he's been in the nit more often than the NCAA tournament. I'm not going to say anything bad about him, but he just doesn't have the experience needed. I hope turned into a top level coach.

My dream coach is Stan Van Gundy. But Detroit signed him at 7/m a year, so obviously GM's also consider him a top level coach.

But I think an NBA guy can have easier success recruiting than an NFL guy. Only a few kids to sign every year. And Alabama definitely understands the value in good assistant coaches. They already know the landscape for the different classes, and have usually already began developing relationships.

Hmmm. Maybe the plane in Ruston wasn't a coincidence after all.

Gosh, of the two, I hope it's him.
